Business Week Online Rankings

Statistically. Wharton MBA enrolls about 25-30% of its students from Ivy undergraduate schools. Extended to other elite schools and elite publics, that number becomes somewhere around 50-60%.

This percentage is actually low compared to those for the top law schools.

^Hence the reason why people obsess about Ivy League educations…

:) I am enjoying the perspectives in reply to my post (my husband just asked what I was laughing at and I showed him the thread - now he is chuckling too). I wish there were a way to follow up on the progress of some of you in 5-10 years and see if your SCHOOL gets you where and what you seem to think it is going to get you. I particularly loved the 40K comment, that exact attitude is a deal-breaker when I interview.

As for my companies’ net worth - cheeky and challenging question(hmmmm, another great attitude). For what it is worth (no pun intended), my companies are worth enough that I am retiring debt-free, before age 50 and my kids go to college, to my vacation home. It does not suck to be me :)

BTW Calcruzer: “One person on your list, Marvin Pierce, graduated in 1916!!!–though I presume you put him on here since he is George Bush’s grandfather.” I removed that fact from his brief bio as it has no bearing on what quality of business school Miami has. As for the list of some specific grads, it was not (and is NOT) an all-inclusive list of Miami’s accomplished graduates.

Again, for me only two things matter:
What do the recruiters think and do.
What % of graduates have jobs and/or placement in MBA programs

Blessings to you all, have fun and much success with your pursuits…

I just wanted to point this out: BYU is number one on the list of the recruiter survey rank. This makes me wonder how accurate this ranking is.

I’d think BYU kids are indeed recruiters/companies dream employees. Family oriented, probably won’t be abusing drugs/alcohol, squeaky clean types. Who wouldn’t want to hire people like that?

… compared to the nerdy, social deprived, Ivy League graduates, who want money, prestige, and worry about themselves?

the recruiter ranking is a little off if they rank Emory 56th and wharton anything outside top 10.

This thing is saying recruiters would take someone from Iowa at number 6 over someone from Wharton at 17. That is laughable. If the rankings is not saying that what is it saying and why would it matter if it was anything else? That should be the recruiter opinions on the school and i guess this says Iowa is better in recruiter eyes than Umich, Stern, Wharton, MIT, UNC, Berkley(well everything is better than berkeley at 41), and G-town. This is not placement, that is another ranking, that is suppossed to be opinions by recruiters so i guess we all should be looking at Iowa. Well i guess they like people from Iowa so much they give them an average salary of 37,500, same with the number 1 BYU at 45,000 i guess mormons don’t care for money, check out Number 5 Indiana at 44,000 on average. If recruiters liked them so much wouldn’t they offer more?

BYU…hahahaha…everyone THINKS they are the squeaky clean types. Sheesh…ask someone who actually goes there…what do u think they do in such a secluded place? XD

Is it me, or is BYU a major turn-off for non-mormons?

Remember that for the mean starting salaries for graduates, much has to do with the area of the school, and where it’s recruiters are from.

The cost of living for the midwest is significantly cheaper than the northeast. Nearly all non-elite schools (not top 25) get their first job in their region, for example, Indiana grads would get Midwest jobs.

Because of their location, they won’t have as high as a salary, but on the other hand, their house isn’t going to cost as much, meals, etc.

This school is still going to be a turnoff for non-mormons because for all you know after graduating, you might now even be able to find a job in the area.

what is a mormon?

I Googled it. All I have to say is; I WANT TEN WIVES! Is this true; I’m thinking about switching to be a Mormon…

Hmmm…if you knew you made that typo, why didn’t you just delete and retype?

oh, you edited. anyway, BYU, no matter what recruiters say about it, is not a school for everyone.

businessweek is trash. miami is in 1st place in voting. how ■■■■■■■■ is that. they probably got the whole student body to vote.

The true rankings for you should be based on what you want to do. If IB/PE/HF then look for schools who have plenty of alumni working in these positions. I would personally look at the type of jobs people got at graduation as an indication of a school’s quality. If McKinsey is what your ideal job out of business school then Kellogg, Wharton, HBS, Chicago all have 30+ offers so those maybe schools you want to attend.

I am so glad McKinsey started to recruit interns from UMICH. I can wait to apply for that job next year. Hopefully once our new school is finished we will be even higher

this thread needs to be updated. The 2008 rankings already came out
