"The integration, which would be complete by the start of the 2026-27 academic year, requires the approval of the CSU Board of Trustees. The board will be asked to act on the recommendation at its November 2024 meeting following information sessions at its July and September meetings. "
Hopefully that will help Cal Maritime stay afloat. (pun intended).
Interesting!!!
Cal Maritime is often overlooked by students for whom it might be a good option. I’m not quite sure how this integration would work, but I could see it increasing the appeal of the degree, to students who have felt that it wasn’t prestigious enough to consider.
D23 (very) briefly considered Cal Maritime but was put off by the uniforms!
My concern is that this may be a trend for the 6 other CSU campuses who have difficulty meeting their enrollment targets.
Per this article from Jan 2023, the redirection of 5% of state funding goes from campuses not meeting their targets to those that exceed their targets.
Any campus missing its enrollment target by 10% or more will permanently lose up to 5% of its state enrollment funding, which will then be sent to campuses exceeding their enrollment targets. This won’t go into effect until 2024-25 at the earliest, giving campuses time to plug their enrollment gaps.
