@sandiegodad2017 No, if they have 59 spots available they will offer more than that to get 59 out of the 1110 applications. The admit rate are those that were offered admissions out of the 1110 apps in hopes that they will fill the 59 spots. The admit rate should be around 17%.
Anyone know if waitlists will keep going out today? Ik acceptances lasted 2 or 3 days last week, can we expect the same with waitlists?
^ Yep - also pointed out by @CopperlineX2.
@sandiegodad2017 Sorry, guess my phone is slow to refresh!
@CopperlineX2 @sandiegodad2017 Doing the analysis in aggregate for Cal Poly as a whole…
If Cal Poly SLO is indeed planning for an incoming freshman class of about 4,500 for Fall ‘18, then using last year’s yield rate of 31.24% (per Cal Poly’s updated CDS data) would suggest that SLO will admit 14,405 applicants.
Per Cal Poly’s news release in Dec ‘17, the school received 54,732 freshman applications, a new record. (Note: The 65,000+ applications figure also includes 10,000+ transfer apps.)
So, 14,405 admits (estimated) / 54,732 freshman applications received = 26.3% acceptance rate this year, assuming the same yield rate as last year.
Due to the over-enrollment issue in prior classes, it sure does look like it got a lot more competitive to get into SLO for Fall ‘18 freshman admissions.
@03miata most of the waitlists are released in a day according to the past two years. Some trickle in day two but it is more than likely they just didn’t post until day 2. You never know though. Since we have seen wait lists from most of the colleges I would be surprised if there were more.
Yes, I was waitlisted yesterday.

@GeronimoAlpaca maybe 26.3% overall for SLO. But I calculated specifically for economics - it was 7.7% acceptance rate last year. Can’t even imagine what is the % this year - maybe 5%, or something like that… I wish SLO would publish their acceptance rates like other schools do. We would have not wasted our precious time…
My son was curious why he could get into one Cal Poly (CPP) for computer science, but was waitlisted for the other. I showed him the stats of nearly 5000 apps for 130 seats. Not favorable odds. Luckily he prefers his SoCal options, so not disappointed yet. If UCI lets us down, that will be another story. The wait continues!
Similar situation here. My D was admitted to CPP Architecture but waitlisted for SLO Architecture.
@Chicalmom @CopperlineX2 cal poly SLO is known to be more prestigious than Pomona and harder to get into.
@seaotterj87
SAME! I have not seen anything about Psychology except for that single waitlist!!! Did they even send out acceptances?!?!?!
@ashprox Indeed, but I do pity some of these big city kids who feel pressure to pick SLO for the prestige of the programs. I’ve known several who were bored to tears being stuck “in the middle of nowhere” for 4 or 5 years. I grew up there, so no big deal to me. I remember SLO used to be full of kids from Fresno & Bakersfield who loved it because they were used to “middle of nowhere” plus SLO had the beach nearby. UCSB is similar, although a bit closer to LA. I wish more kids would go for fit instead of worrying about prestige.
@elladancer18 @seaotterj87 there were several psych acceptances…see post #1191, #808, #799, #789
@seaotterj87 I saw 3 accepted posts for psychology. Scroll back to posts #782 and 792 (together), 799 and 808. All posted on March 1.
@collegeeee2022
I was waitlisted animal science with my CSU GPA of 3.9 and SAT of 1350. I also have an extra year of AP social sciences, an extra year of AP calculus and 4 extra years of AP sciences. I also have 4’s on all APs I’ve taken so far. And I have 11-15 hrs of EC.
@CopperlineX2 yes me too especially considering I’m one of those Fresno peeps who love that middle of no where SLO feel I’m an older transfer student waiting to hear back. Dyyyying to hear back actually.
some people were accepted for psychology
has anyone heard anything for aerospace eng? if so please post stats!
@nm4017 if you go to search (near page numbers) and search “aerospace” you will be able to see who has posted about that major. I do remember seeing some.
