Cal Poly Class of 2022 Thread

I understand that some people are mad that the CSU system does not require essays/supplements, Rec letters, etc but what many people don’t realize is this system is used around the world. For example, Australia and New Zealand do not require any recommendations or essays. They only care about your academic performance and standardized test score. We should be grateful that we can retake the SAT/ACT many times, compared to the students living in different countries who only have one shot on one test.

And that the CSU’s superscore!

And that Cal Poly SUPER superscores!

@MelloG my extracurriculars are fairly extensive. Won’t go into everything, but I have the presidential volunteer’s award for service (i honestly dont consider that to matter much), numerous debate awards (qualled to the toc), several coding/tech activities (winning hackathons, founding them, doing girls who code), and i did cosmos.

@netflixandchillingworth I do not doubt your qualifications at all. Your are very accomplished, that is clear (shout out for GWC…I mentored the club at our high school). Unfortunately, as you may have gathered by reading the last few pages of back and forth, Cal Poly doesn’t look at those accomplishments at all. They look at GPA, test scores, rigor, hours of EC, leadership, hours of work, job in major. It looks like the cutoff for CS was somewhere between 4827 and 4853 points. With your GPA, the max you could be is 4907. It sounds from your description that you would have max rigor, max gpa, and probably max EC with leadership. If, however, you did not check the box for job in major, that’s minus 50 points. You would then be at 4857, which is right at the border. If you did not have a job that averaged 20+ hours a week, then you would lose at least another 20 points, bringing your score down to 4837. If you had no job at all, then you would be down to 4767. That’s why we ask people to calculate their MCA scores to get a better idea of where they stand. I don’t think you need to worry at all about getting into prestigious privates given you’ve already received early admission to Cal. You will continue to accomplish much. You just wanted to know why you were wait listed…and now you have the information you need to figure that out.

i think some of you guys are really being so discouraging and quite rude to the people on here who are really proud of themselves for their acceptances. fighting about how the system does or doesnt work wont help anything. like, the system doesnt make sense, probs wont ever make sense. :frowning: :confused:

My D got an email today saying “Congratulations on your decision to attend Cal Poly in fall 2018”. But she never accepted it as she is waiting for decisions from other colleges. Did anybody else get this message?

CC turns out to be a savior again. Son never told me about the “Green and Gold scholarship”. When I saw it here, I asked him, and he searched his mailbox and found it in the junk folder!

The letter is not very clear. It says “you will receive a $1,000 renewable award.” Is it $1000 per year? For 4 years, or as long as he is at Cal Poly?

Also, we couldn’t find the link on Cal Poly portal that’s mentioned in the letter. “You may then access details of your scholarship, and indicate if you accept or decline your scholarship award through the ‘Money Matters’ tab and see the links under the ‘Financial Aid & Scholarships’ section.”

@IntApl2018 You should contact admissions.

@bogeyorpar, it’s per year, for 4 years.

@eyemgh , yeah, finally figured out how to see the details. Cute to see “333 per quarter”. In your time, you probably see “666”, right? lol

Has anyone applying under Communications heard a decision yet?

@bogeyorpar, I’m pretty sure it was 666 and change, but honestly, I’ve never looked at the portal. My son would just forward the email with the final amount to me and I’d pay the bill. :wink:

post #1466 in this thread is the only communications admit (non graphic) I’ve noticed @BrianP9999

Will there be another wave of acceptance, waitlist or do you all think this is it?

has anyone applying under rpta heard anything recently?

Thank you. Strange. My son hasn’t heard anything at all.

How do you search for an exact post? I typed in 1466 and doesn’t take me there.

@BrianP9999 neither did my daughter and it’s so frustrating they should give us some news , even if it’s rejection just tell us and get this over with

@BrianP9999 type major or college into the search box (mag. glass)
Also, have your son check his portal. It should say “Admit” “Wait list” or “No decision”
