Cal Poly Class of 2022 Thread

Unfortunately nobody knows…but here’s a question: do you think Cal Poly ranks high schools? If one person has a 4700 MCA from a dog high school, and another has a 4650 from a highly competitive high school, does Cal Poly take this into consideration? Or does the higher MCA prevail? I think there must be something in their algorithm that accounts for this…in my daughters school dstrict, a 4.0 gpa at one school is very different from a 4.0 at some of the others. Just wondering while over-analyzing the waiting.

Can someone call the admissions office and ask when decisions are being released?

@momamet Dog high school? Sounds pretty elitist.

Really? Call it what you will. Wasn’t worried about being PC.

Signing off. Good luck to all.

LOL. Truth be told, whether it’s my son’s “dog high school” 4766 or your daughter’s competitive high school 4650, neither are likely to be good enough for crazy SLO. Honestly I’m just bummed kid didn’t get early admission from UCI.

Who even says something like “dog high school” obviously you weren’t trying to be PC but it was rude.

Now what we need is @doodlebop06 to remind us parents to keep the thread focused on decisions and stop bickering at each other.

I’ve been checking my CP portal, but nothing yet.

I appreciate the parents on here that give insightful information/advice about the school in question, or those who are encouraging. But this site seems to be overridden by neurotic parents whose child’s success is only due to the push from their parents. What is your kid going to do when they get to college lol?

The truly motivated kids are the ones browsing this forum themselves, not those who require their parents to spoon-feed them all the information about college admissions. Just my 2cents as a fellow hs senior.

Now that I’ve walked away for a bit, let me first apologize for offending people with the “dog high school” comment. My daughter in fact goes to the 5th lowest rated high school in our OOS public school district (out of 13), and we live in the second lowest ranked state (for education) in the country (near bottom of the barrel here). She does very well, but she goes to a “semi-dog high school” in a “full blown-dog state”. My question, which I thought was a very good one (but maybe not worded correctly), was whether Cal Poly considers this, or if they just go straight off MCA. Also, the MCA scores I proposed in my post were completely hypothetical (4650 is not my D’s score). I never meant to start a bicker session - I am a Cal Poly alum and love the school, but honestly, we’ll be just fine if she doesn’t get in. Everything happens for a reason!

I don’t know if “dog” means something specific, I just interpreted it to mean a school that was less competitive or had grade inflation. That said, I doubt they factor competitiveness into the equation. If they did, there is the potential that nobody would get in from certain schools, and is would probably cut off an avenue to diversity.

@momamet I’m glad you came back. I’m rooting for all our kids to end up at great schools, Cal Poly or not, and I hope everyone posts updates.

Hallelujah!!

@momamet ok makes sense in that context. Hope all goes well

Just out of curiosity, are you in NM? That’s where we are from. Our daughter is a freshman at Cal Poly.

my friend told me it’s coming out in the first week of march.

Is having a high MCA that important? From what I’ve seen about how to calculate it, I don’t think my sister had a super high MCA, but she was accepted into SLO last year for environmental engineering. But then again, I don’t think I know how to calculate it properly.

How would your friend know that? @ironweasal

I expected decisions to come out in February, but my friend (who was accepted in 2017) and my college counselor (who went to Cal Poly SLO) said that they’ll most likely come out in March. I think we could possibly expect them next Friday, but I’m not sure tbh
