My son was accepted to his alternate major last year. He heard from CalPoly in the first wave of admission release process(He had low stats for CalPoly.)
@hoppy1 What was his first choice and what was his alternate? My daughter applied to BME with a 4654 MCA score and her alternate was Architectural Engineering.

I spoke to the admissions office today. My IS son applied to ME and has good stats but no decision yet, 4.27 GPA, 32 ACT, lots of EC, work, and 8 APs. He was accepted into several other schools and we are trying to decide if we need to fly out to visit a few over spring break, mainly Co school of mines, Purdue and Illinois. The admissions guy said that decisions are still coming out until March 31st and he could not tell me if the first wave is done or not because he does not know. He did say that once a decision is reached ( admitted or declined), that the portal will update the status. If it says status undetermined, that means that they have not made a determination yet one way or the other. So it looks like we better book those tickets.
I’m curious, has anyone received the declined status?
@MomofTwo13 Congratulations! You have made a lot of people hopeful. Would you mind going to the Cal Poly SLO Mustang Parent Forum and letting them know as well? There are also a lot of parents on there wondering about more acceptances as well!
I’ve got to be honest, I applied for aero with subpar stats compared to what I have seen on this thread so the chance of me getting in is low. Just in case I get waitlisted tho, what is the process for that? Someone said it is particularly grueling on waitlisters and I’m wondering why that is. Thanks!
I applied to marine science before I learned that about only 20 freshman are expected to study the major. Does anyone have information about what kind of stats people have who applied to marine science? Or the possibility of getting into my alternative major (environmental management and protection) if I get rejected from marine science?

Once waitlisted applicants are notified, you can then opt into the waitlist. As accepted applicants decline their spots, then they will go down the waitlist (probably ranked but SLO will not give you an idea of where you stand). Waitlisted applicants can hear anytime after opting in until after the SIR date May 1 so expect at least after May 1. Once SLO knows how many spots are available/major, they will notify the waitlisted applicant. You can then accept or decline.

@manajilt My son applied for Liberal Arts department, so probably his case really does not apply to your daughter…
@noel334 3.7GPA(9-11th), his best ACT Math 24,English 27 or 28, only one AP(US History AP test 5) all regular classes in his senior year. In state(not local), some ECs(one sport(never on varsity), paid job, no volunteer experience)
He was also accepted to honor program at San Diego State.
I saw some stats of admitted students in the major my son was accepted on this thread, and they are MUCH higher than his. It might be a lot more competitive this year in even Liberal Arts majors.
My son was waitlisted for Microbiology this afternoon (3/6). We have been checking frequently, so we’re sure about the timing. His stats are 4.27 CP GPA and 1460 SAT.
Just got a notice that I’m on the waitlist 4:58 PM today! Civil Engineering.
