Dear Cal Poly Alumni, Parents and Friends:

I knew it would be a matter of only a few days into my tenure as interim president before I would have good news to report to you.

This morning on NBC’s “Today” show, Cal Poly was one of several universities highlighted for their academic excellence. Cal Poly was featured at the end of the video segment in a section on universities to watch as “up and comers.”

The occasion was the release of U.S. News & World Report’s annual rankings of best universities in the country. For the 18th consecutive year, Cal Poly was ranked best among all public master’s universities in the West.

The U.S. News rankings factor many metrics: One notable component is the percentage of alumni who contribute to their alma mater. Your generosity has always been crucial to Cal Poly’s ability to provide our renowned learn-by-doing programs. Once again, your generosity is a factor in Cal Poly’s success.

Many of us on campus today are beaming over the rankings. I trust that you are taking great pride in today’s news as well. On behalf of all of us here today at Cal Poly – and those yet to come – thank you for your support.

Robert B. Glidden
Interim President
