Changing majors within a college is easier then changing majors across colleges. Engineering is doable since there most of the major support classes are the same across the board for engineering. Students need to wait until after 1st quarter to apply to switch majors and “typically” it takes 2-3 quarters to change. Engineering is its own college and their advisors are used to seeing changes within the college. Obviously manufacturing to electrical might be harder but still doable. Where it would be most unlikely is changing majors from AG to engineering or Liberal Arts to Engineering.
EDITED to add: Computer engineering might be the one not likely to happen within the college due to its impaction but CE students do change to CS students and vis a versa all the time. They can only change once though and I believe the same holds true for all the internal cross majors changes in Engineering.
Looks like only transfer admits so far
There was never anything about another wave of decisions coming today on the Parent SLO page - just the same advice that they can still trickle in and to keep eye out in case. (I’m an active SLO parent on that FB and have a current senior applying to schools.)
For those admitted this link will show you coursework for each major and what to expect. Freshmen get blocked schedules the first year, meaning that advisors in the departments block the students into classes each quarter. Sometimes less classes as the year goes on and some majors, engineering typically and business school, get all their classes blocked each quarter. So you can see why it would be hard to switch majors if their is no correlation or different schools.
Any Marine Science decisions come in yet?
We know they take something like 20 kids so its a real lucky ticket …
I’ve seen a few so far
Someone up thread mentioned that there was going to be more decisions today based on a post in the FB page.
CalPoly Mustang family page mentions more to come tomorrow
Has anyone been admitted for Agricultural Business? I haven’t seen any as of yet.
no one in our Cal Poly SLO parents mustang facebook group know for sure when decisions roll out because we as parents are not the admissions office - generally decisions roll out in waves but I personally think once someone states that they were accepted in that major and checked the portal (not email), that department rolled out their acceptances. but every department rolls out acceptances at different times, followed by waitlists then at the end rejections. but i have also heard of the occasional last minute acceptance reported on April 1st but less common
I agree, I was just trying to keep anxious applicants up to date and I do not have access to the FB page so just going by what had been posted. Following SLO admissions for many years, the usual admit wave, waitlist wave and denial wave are the Norm. Thank you.
Yes. Admitted into Ag biz yesterday
A wave of Transfer admits were just released per my Cal Poly SLO Mustang parents page
Thanks!
Has anyone been admitted with just 2 years of a language? My kid has a 4.25 GPA, 10 AP’s, leadership roles and tons of work. I’m thinking having just 2 years of language (the minimum) may have knocked him out of the running early on?
I can’t edit my information from yesterday, somehow, BUT…
For anyone needing reference his email came at 11:53 am on 3/11/24.
I do think that acceptances for FTF came out yesterday; and transfer acceptances today.
Waitlists should be next and then those denied. I have had two kiddos apply; one for 2022 and one for 2024 and it is hard going to school to find out some haven’t received a decision when you have.
My kid got in yesterday with just 2 years of foreign language. Statistics major.
I have two kids at slo and I also combed these pages last year trying to find the pattern in how the acceptances roll out. I am also in the parent page and have been for a few years now.
The pattern does appear to be one admit wave (not counting portfolios), then a waitlist wave, then the denial wave. Additionally, there is a transfer admit wave. I know there is a lot of speculation about multiple acceptance waves, but from combing through previous years, I have not seen anything that shows that to be the case. Whenever anyone responds to questions about when the later acceptance was actually received, it’s always been a transfer, or an email they missed or that they hadn’t known to check their portal. And the ones who talk about later acceptances have turned out to be portfolio acceptances or waitlists. The waitlists are the ones that you see who found out after April.
And for what it’s worth, I haven’t seen anything on the parent page that suggests there are multiple “waves” of acceptances coming. It seems more like speculation coming from rumors, and some of those rumors are coming from this page, and making their way back to the parent page, and then back here again, creating one big vicious circle.
I am sorry to everyone who did not get into their first choice school. I have several kids who have gone to college now, and every one has ended up where they should be, even when it didn’t feel like it at the time. Good luck to everyone!!
My daughter also has only 2 years of language and I’m afraid it might make it or break it for her. Still waiting for an email. Fingers-crossed
Yes my son got in yesterday for Business with 2 years of language.
Thanks for this. Very helpful and interesting. Question though, are there no placement exams? If not my droid would be repeating an awful lot of courses.
