Freshman son in Fall 2024
Same here, we just have to hold it together. Until our status changes to waitlist or rejected there is a chance. It was crushing, so many from our HS got in and my little flock of three (son and two friends) who are all very good students have heard nothing. I do hold out hope b/c this would be the first school to waitlist/reject all three of them given that each is a different major and each has a good academic transcript. But it looks like that is what is happening here.
My sweet daughter wore Cal Poly shirts since 6th grade—had all the merchandise—including stickers on her laptop. Both parents are alums, and she had/has excellent stats. On March 28 2020 my daughter was rejected from Cal Poly and COVID shut down California. It was absolutely the worst of times. Then she was invited into SDSU Honors and immediately thrived. Earned straight A’s in college for four years and is now graduating and off to Law School. Maybe the Cal Poly rejection fueled or ignited a drive that was required for the next level? Who knows? But I do know all of our children will thrive in many, many environments as long as they know, and are told by us, that they are incredibly capable and their college does not define their future.
This is way harder than I thought it would be with my son. He is trying to get into Aero - he has literally wanted to go to CP his whole life. My wife is Alumni, we travel to SLO all the time because we love the area so much. But, none of this is pertinent to “the game”, I get it.
I don’t have all my stats collected with cumulative classes/APs, etc, but my son does have a 4.5 weighted GPA, is in AP Physics/Calc currently, AP Env Sci, has taken all Honors classes all four years of HS. Top 3% of his class. Two HS sports all four years, with leadership roles in them. ASB, Sports Council, volunteering at youth camps… he has been asking himself what else he could have done.
All that being said, I am truly glad that other kids are in, they obviously deserve to be there!
None of us were thinking this was a slam dunk, but it’s hard when your kid has tried so hard and doesn’t keep accepted off the bat. We are holding out hope still for that smaller chance.
He has applied to 5 UCs and has gotten rejections so far from UCD and UCI.
At the end of the day, these things happen - they are life lessons that all our kids need to learn. But, it doesn’t make it any easier… Not everything goes the way you’d like.
I hope you all are doing OK out there, and congrats to the incoming freshmen!
Great acceptances coming his way. He has great stats and ec’s, hang in there.
Thank you, I appreciate that. He is a great kid. It will work out how it is supposed to work out. I didn’t quite anticipate the amount of angst I have over this!
Any word on Mechanical Engineering? Been looking around, but seems like crickets acceptance-wise. Maybe another wave at some point for it?
Still nothing back even with a 4.25 SLO. Dang…
Well, it isn’t over until it’s over. Gotta keep my head up!
At the end of the day here, thinking it might be a no for my kiddo- applied for Business. He and a bunch of his friends got accepted to UCI last week. Interestingly, none of these same kids have heard from SLO as of yet! Still crossing our fingers for the option. He has some other good choices too. But we do love SLO!!
Hang in there!
Who knows, maybe it will happen!
Thanks! I think Business is one of those super competitive majors there, among many. We knew it was a gamble!
I’ve seen a few. My son also has not heard back on ME but it’s ok. He got into CPP and UCI for ME (both great schools). He will pick between those 2. His older senior brother at CPP for chemistry and junior sister at UCI for nursing. Both very happy.
I figure it’s waitlist or denial at this point but I could be wrong.
Good luck.
Thank you! Yeah, I had an exceptional interview with MIT, so I’ll be hearing that decision this Thursday. Really hoping that goes well. As far as SLO goes though, it’s one of my top schools for sure.
I do know aerospace is one of the most competitive but with your son’s stats it just doesn’t make sense. He will end up at the right place for him. My son got waitlisted from Cal Poly and rejected from all the UCs, he ended up at UNR (Reno) and is loving it and thriving in their engineering program. It just sucks when they work so hard and did all the right things.
I hear you. In the same boat. They ultimately end up where they are supposed to be. Hang in there!
It appears so, even though I wish that wasn’t the case. This rollout system is brutal.
that sucks to hear :(( i knew someone who got rejected from every UC except SC, SB, and Berkeley though so tell your son to hang in there
Any poly sci majors hear anything? My D is crying already not getting acceptance. Waiting for the final rejection notification.
