Exactly my thoughts! Thanks for confirming
Recruited athletes could have ready been accepted at SLO already. My kids had a teammate recruited there who knew in late Oct. or November of 2022.
FAFSA news that impacts financial aid timeline:
How and where are you guys seeing CSU GPA? it my application I see two GPAs. one for high school and one for community college classes (shows this as transfer GPA).
You will not see the Cal Poly GPA on the application since SLO calculates their GPA using 9-11th grades with the 8 semester Honors point cap vs the rest of the CSU’s which only use 10-11th grades with the 8 semester Honors point cap.
Use the Calculator link: GPA Calculator | CSU
The CSU application does not include College course grades in the calculation so you would have to recalculate if College courses are reported.
Thank you. This GPA calculation is quite tricky with UC and CSU calculating differently. For example if I have taken community college courses in 9th grade, should that be included for CSUs which only take 10-11 school scores? I really wish they display the full calculated GPA somewhere in the app
For SLO, yes all a-g courses taken 9-11th including CC courses should be included in the SLO GPA calculation but the Honors point cap is only for weighted courses taken 10-11th up to 8 semesters.
This is interesting, it shows the supplemental factors at each CSU
You can start to see why admissions are unpredictable at SLO, they look at so many different factors.
Hi, Gumbymom -
Cal Poly SLO is my top choice, and I applied for Business Admin. My SLO GPA went in as a 4.16, considerably lower than my overall weighted. I’m also aware SLO uses MCA to calculate admissions, and my score was a 4548.
I recently noticed I stupidly made a mistake while hastily filling out the application in October, where I didn’t click the “worked a job relating to major” box and listed my hours worked per week slightly under what they actually were.
According to SLO, especially now, I can’t fix any of this. My MCA score with these corrections would be around a 4618 which is considerably better for BA.
What can I expect? Do you think I’m still competitive enough for BA or are there any next steps I should pursue?
The MCA score calculator is outdated so you cannot go by that information anymore since they have not listed the breakout and details for the calculation since 2013.
Your SLO GPA is within range for 2023 admits: 4.08-4.25
I cannot give any advice regarding your chances since admissions is unpredictable due to the many factors that are used in the Freshman selection. GPA is only one factor but your GPA makes you competitive.
You could email admissions about the omission and see what they say.
Best of luck.
I would 100% call admissions. They have admission people (not students) answer their phones and they very likely will correct your app. They list a deadline for updates so if they get overwhelmed and can’t do it then you were warned by deadline
This was encouraging and super insightful. Thank you so much. I’ll be sending out an email asap.
My only worry is that I caught this mistake too late and they’ve already read through my application - but it’s worth a shot.
I’ll still give them a call. Thanks for the idea.
Application update deadline was January 15th, but this is a mistake change not an update necessarily so I’m hoping they still take it into consideration.

SLO also announced they are not implementing the year round program they previously announced. That would have let 600 more freshman enroll, stating summer session and alternating taking a regular quarter off.
Yes, they have delayed it until next year.
Any info on their transition from quarter system to semester system? I heard that was delayed as well. Any idea how this will impact new students? If they start on quarters for the first year or two and then switch to semesters, seems like a bit of a disruption with the transition.
Uggg… I am sure there is logistical reasons why but thought this was a great solution and offered some chance for more incoming freshman.
SLO’s first semester will be Fall of 2026.
