SLO does not allow any academic updates after application submission except for 12th course changes or A-G category designations.
Also the CSU application clearly spells out that any HS level Math taken in Middle school should be reported since SLO does not assume the courses were taken based on the Math progression.
That said if they are still using the same MCA bonus point criteria, 5 years of Math would get maximum rigor points.
Coursework Changes:
Coursework changes are accepted when making changes to 12th grade in progress or planned courses only. Changes to the area A-G designations will also be accepted.
My son made a mistake on his application last year, so he contacted SLO admissions. They told him to submit the update and they would notify him if they would accept it. They did accept the update and he’s a first year engineering student there now.
He submitted the update in early January, and they followed up saying that they would accept the update about a week later. He had accidentally put in a 10th grade math class as a P instead of the grade, which was an A. They also asked him to do something which he never saw. I’m wondering if that was why he was initially waitlisted. He never found out what they wanted because the link expired when he finally saw the email.
Hello. I am wondering whether 12th grade first semester grades can be submitted before 1/15 as “12th grade coursework” changes or are updates limited to dropping and adding coursework? My daughter received a 5.0 first semester senior year and would like to add it to her files for SLO and SDSU if possible. Is it worth contacting admissions with this question? Thank you.
I applied as a music major, and on the website, it says that I will be contacted in early or mid-January for the supplement, but I haven’t been contacted yet. The supplement is due on January 30th, so I’m a bit stressed. I might call the department later today. Has anyone been contacted yet or am I just being paranoid?
I saw two years of admissions data by major that was posted on the cal poly parents page on fb. The moderator there knows all things Cal Poly. Biology is one of the most difficult to get into ( top 5). I’ll try to find it and post it.
This list has been posted before but % listed is based on projected spots available and not admission data since they admit more than enroll. Basically this is the data from the SLO Target projections so the list based on spots available vs. # of applicants. Competitiveness not based on academics or Computer Science would be on the list.
Here’s a look at the top 10 most competitive majors for freshman applicants:
Psychology: 3,579 applicants, 73 spaces available — 2%
Software engineering: 795 applicants, 25 spaces available — 3.1%
Kinesiology: 2,016 applicants, 78 spaces available — 3.9%
Marine sciences: 653 applicants, 26 spaces available — 4%
Aerospace engineering: 2,095 applicants, 85 spaces available — 4.1%
Biological sciences: 4,336 applicants, 180 spaces available — 4.2%
Biomedical engineering: 1,990 applicants, 100 spaces available — 5%
Political science: 1,596 applicants, 86 spaces available — 5.4%
Biochemistry: 1,288 applicants, 72 spaces available — 5.6%
Art & design: 887 applicants, 55 spaces available — 6.2%
Hi! Any chance any kids at all have been accepted this early (athletes, international, etc?) - my son ( a freshman at SLO) got some messages last week from a kid that is a senior at his high school (not a friend or anyone he knows, but they have some mutual friends) who claims to have been accepted and had questions. Sounds sketchy. I mean - no danger in answering questions, I guess, but weird to lie about it.
SLO has in the past accepted International students early in December/January including US citizen’s studying abroad. I saw 1 or 2 posts last year. The majority of admits will have to go through the “SLO” decision process in March.
