Yes, they consider alternative major. If he/she chooses a less competitive major, it will definitely boost the admission chance.
My S24 chose a very competitive major and a less competitive alternative. He got accepted at the alternative major in the first wave.
In financial aid news: A scholarship award posted to my admitted kid’s portal today. If you have a National Merit Finalist, or I think a National Recognition Program Scholar, email proof of the award to admissions. 3k a year.
Did they ask you to email proof or did it just show up?
In previous years, they asked admitted students to email proof. The past couple of years people have posted that it was awarded without them having to send in proof.
Interesting. We reached out to financial aid to inquire if they were still offering the award. Financial aid said to email admissions with proof of the award.
Thanks. It will be interesting to see if students are awarded the scholarship without sending in proof. SLO doesn’t require that a student list it as their number one choice with NMSC.

Really ? Bc the triple in YaKi’Tu’Tu is really really small. In fact it is what moved slo down on her list. I was shocked how small it was tbh.
Does the campus tour include dorm rooms? Now sounds like we really need to see the rooms.
The triple in Yakitutu is not small in comparison to Yosemite, Sierra Madre or Red Bricks.
The triples in Yakitutu is where students stay during SLO Days overnight. So every student gets an opportunity to feel them out.
Trust me, when you stay in Yakitutu and then get put in a triple in Red Bricks, you will realize the abundance of space in the triple in Yakitutu.
During Admitted Students day there is a Dorm room tour that you can sign up for, separate from the campus tour.
It will only be for one of the dorms. There maybe an opportunity to ask if their is availability to see another dorm but don’t count on it. Student dorm rooms are off limits so it has to be a vacant room, whereever that might be.
If you want to see dorm room tours, you can find them on youtube for many of the different rooms at CP.
Also, join the parents FB page and search on it for dorm rooms. TONS of pictures and videos there.
My student lives in yakʔitʸutʸu triple, the room is pretty big (218 sq. ft) because it is a triple corner room.
They are putting 5 people in a room? Or did I read that wrong?
Yes Yakitutu has 3’s and 5’s this year no more quads. They are VERY large and have plenty of space for 5. Everyone gets a bed, desk, armoire and the room has a fullsize refrigerator with LOTS of floor space.
It is a great space and easily beats the triples in red bricks in my opinion. Not to mention being the newest dorm with amenities, like a full kitchen on the bottom floor for students to use.
It’s hard for me to imagine sleeping in a 5 person room, but then again I am old.
Is it true that there are no “all you can eat” food plans? This is a concern for my eats-a-lot son…!

You could call admissions but they normally do not give out that information until the waitlist is closed and all enrollment numbers are verified.
