Cal Poly SLO Class of 2028 Freshman Discussion Thread

Section C2

For this year’s data, the CDS is usually posted around January/February of 2025.

Great news! What were the majors of these 4 students?

There is no all you can eat. And no typical dining hall. There are lots of options on the campus though and there are several different meal plans you can buy and can always add on. Options run the gamut from food trucks to Chick Fil A, Panda Express (coming soon) to salads, pasta, etc.

Students and parents complain about the food but I also have another student at a UC where they have a typical dining hall, and the food is awful there. They would love the options that are available at CP. They tell their sibling to never complain to them about food on campus.

We’re OOS so can’t meet with faculty but thought about letting arch dept head who ran the summer studio program know. I understand the unbiased cal state application but it’s just a bunch of numbers with no sense of the whole person. Son was invited into SYR honors program for arch so he’s leaning that way.

Understandable. Our S24 had to fly to 4 colleges out of state this year for auditions and we understand what a hassle it can be. Travel cross-country in the winter with connecting flights, all for a 10 minute audition and then pack yourself back to the airport, or if no flights leave that day, back to the hotel for a departure the next morning. Character building!

We drove him to the in-state auditions, so we got to talk with faculty and tour the schools and meet other parents and students auditioning.

If you have contact with the Arch Department head, I would DEFINITELY have your son contact him, putting as much into crafting a (short) email as into a college essay. Don’t wait. Their hands might be tied, but they also might be able to help. Never know until you try!

Our neighbor’s son- accepted to Stanford and USC - rejected at Cal Poly. We know of a few other instances of the same thing (and all of them were accepted to Stanford). It definitely happens and still boggles our minds for sure.

They are only doing exterior dorm tours on Admitted Students’ Day.

D24 was finally waitlisted last night for Engineering. No idea why it took them so long :mantelpiece_clock:
Accepted to Cal, UCLA, UCI, UCSD, UCD, CPP and WL Cornell.
Waiting on Stanford, but fully expecting to go to UCB with S22.

Good luck to all those on the waitlist! :racehorse:

Same here. It’s now between SDSU and UCSC.

Has everyone gotten a decision? I still can’t see anything for CS.

My daughter still hasn’t heard yet (statistics).

S24 - Waitlisted
Major - Anthropology/Geography
CSU GPA - 4.30
Accepted: UCLA, UCSB, UCSD, UCI, UCD, SDSU, CSULB, and others out of state.
Denials - None
Waitlisted - only SLO

Glad to get an answer finally. Thankfully has other great choices of schools to attend. Good luck to everyone.

Did you log into the account?

That’s scary bc the room I saw with 3 ppl was tiny.

Do they require Freshmen to stay on-campus? How’s apartment renting in nearby neighborhood? Maybe we should start exploring off-campus housing?

Yes all freshmen are required to live on campus unless they are local to the area.

I submitted the above response 3+ weeks ago about my older son before the current year SLO results were released. Funny enough, my current senior just had a very similar outcome this year. Accepted at Berkeley, UCI, Davis, and Santa Cruz, waitlisted at UCLA and UCSD. And now he’s waitlisted at SLO which I suspect will be followed by an eventual rejection, which is the same as my older son. SLO is a beautiful school with great academics, but it wasn’t the top choice for either of my sons so it worked out how it was supposed to.

Found this on the Housing website. Looks like they will require certain students to live on campus for two years:

These student groups are currently required to live on campus for two years:

  • Students enrolled in the College of Architecture and Environmental Design (CAED)
  • Students enrolled in the College of Agriculture, Food, and Environmental Sciences (CAFES)
  • Students enrolled in the College of Engineering (CENG)
  • Cal Poly Scholars
  • Student-Athletes
  • TRIO students

At this time, a second year on campus is optional for all other students — including transfer students.

This is incredibly helpful, thank you SO much for taking the time to share this information with me!!
