Thanks all, adding to the record for future reference. As others have indicated, S24 absorbed and adjusted expectations when first not accepted a few weeks back. Had the talk then about likely outcomes. He is now trying to settle on UCSD, Purdue, etc. Amazing how resilient they are in the end…

for anyone wondering about appeals, my appeal for financial problems and emotional stress was rejected for public health yesterday. said there were only 60 spots available and 1100 applied for it, so I guess its understandable, but just letting everyone know appeal responses might be rolling out now!
Did anyone else on the waitlist receive an invite for the Calpoly open open , including admit students day? The link to RSVP for admit students works and mentions my major and fall 2024 start. My portal stills says waitlisted ? Am I over reading this ?
Last year, waitlisted students were invited to the open house.
Easy one to over read. My kiddo did the same and was equally confused.
Gumbymom. Finally joined so that I could message you and thank you for all your great responses, not just here but other lists too. What is the best way to ask you a question?
Just post your question on this discussion.
D24 waitlisted and we are now just trying to wait patiently, yes she has accepted other offers and moving forward with those plans too. But what I wonder is…how many of the accepted students get their offers rescinded due to either not maintaining GPA for spring term OR for having lied on their initial application in the first place since all grades and other was self-reported? Are there stats available on those numbers in past years? I assume Cal Poly SLO now has the arduous task of verifying the reported GPAs with actual transcripts of the admitted students. My kid accurately and honestly reported her GPA and info in her application but the cynic in me suspects that not all applicants were as forthcoming or honest. Any insight or thoughts?
I am not aware of any specific data on how many students are rescinded for not maintaining their Senior GPA or having discrepancies in their self-reported data vs. transcripts but I do see posts of students that have lost their acceptance due more to the “Senioritis” grade issues like D’s and F’s vs. out right lying about their grades.
Errors in reporting grades are part of being human and if the student finds the mistake, notifying the school(s) as soon as possible is not an issue. But I cannot imagine any student would take the chance of purposely lying about their grades since they know they will be caught once the transcripts are evaluated.
Embellishing EC’s and accomplishments might be more common but these areas are harder to verify.
Regardless of whether an admitted student decides to go elsewhere or if they are rescinded, universities take those factors into account when they determine how many students to admit and how many to waitlist.
Thank you, I appreciate you and your responses
That’s a really good point! Thank you
I can’t even imagine anyone not being honest with their GPA but I suppose it can happen. My kid was admitted to Mechanical Engineering and his course load was very heavy senior year with all but one class being AP & Dual Enrollment, but was able to pull all A’s. He worked hard to maintain them in case SLO had an issue with lower grades. In the end he has picked a different school and has declined acceptance. I would say that it will make a waitlisted kid happy but the reality is that they accept more than they have spots available.
