Cal Poly SLO Class of 2029 Freshman Discussion Thread

S25 hasn’t heard anything from SLO so assumed WL or R.

He is gutted after getting rejections from UCSD and UCI an hour before. UCSD/SLO/UCSB are his targets. Rough day for the kid after all his friends with similar GPA and several less are faring better. One friend in the same HS got into the same major at SLO with 3.70 capped and low rigor.

CSU Capped Weighted GPA : 4.14
Number of a-g courses taken 9-12th : 42 semesters
Number of UC approved Honors (CA HS’s only)/AP/IB or DE classes: 28 semesters
Intended Major: Bus/Admin

Fortunately he has been accepted to UCSC which I think could be a great fit for him. College admissions Friday is brutal!

No it does not mean rejected or waitlisted until your status changes by april 1st, you have a slim shot at it in the next couple of weeks.
UCSB didnt release their letters yet, how did you get in?

My son did. I also saw one on a fb group. Just letting you know. Best of luck in this adventure…

My son was accepted to Civil Eng last night, apparently. Best of luck!

Different schools have different admission criteria so no way to predict anyone’s chances. You have some great options and you will end up where you are meant to be.

Has anyone been admitted to Psychology? Did a search on this thread but didn’t see any so far. Thanks!

I saw some admits on Reddit.

seeing so many comments about denials and waitlist if not in this first wave.. There have to be some admits after this.
Any one heard about Business major

Yes, there has been some admits after the initial admit wave but historically not many in comparison. That is why I tried very hard to keep track of the SLO timeline.

No Decision means No Decision.

Again, I am not trying to be a “Debbie downer” but this issue comes up every year and I am not sure if it is better to give false hope or tell it like it is and then have some very angry and frustrated students/parents vent on this discussion thread.

This is my decision data timeline for the last 3 years and of course SLO can change it up anytime.

2024 SLO: Admit wave just before 12 pm Monday March 11, 2024. Few admits March 18 mainly portfolio based majors. Some denials and waitlists noted on March 21. Waitlists and Denials on March 27 along with a few admits starting at 3 PM PST.

2023: Admit wave with IS and OOS on Friday March 10,2023. A few admits reported March 17-24. Portfolio admits March 24 along with waitlist decisions posted after 6 pm. Denials posted on Thursday March 30. 2023.

2022: Cal Poly SLO admit wave started on March 10, 2022 with a mixture of OOS and In-state applicants. Waitlist decisions posted March 18, 2022 along with a few acceptances. Admits for students requiring a portfolio review trickled out on March 24, 2022. Denials were posted on March 30, 2022.

do you think any decisions could come out over the weekend?

Normally, no they do not post decisions on the weekend but again they are later than usual with Freshman decisions so anything is possible.

Anyone see industrial engineering? I have seen many different engineering majors, but not industrial anywhere that I can find.
Thanks!

Thank you for all your information, it is so kind that you have taken the time to go through it all. Really quick- does the portal update trigger an email notifying you that there has been a change. We received emails about “updates” from UCI(Accepted) and UCSD(Rejected). Just holding out hope that there might be a chance with SLO.
