So my son got his email at 6:27 pm Pacific time yesterday and of course forgot his password and got his clues wrong so is hard locked out until he can call the help desk at 8 am Monday. But it seems like receiving an email yesterday is “positive” in that yesterday looks like it was an acceptance wave? Any thoughts on that?
Yes, it is a positive.
I’m sorry to hear this, and based on your son’s stats I can only think that they evaluated primarily the capped GPA while selectively applying holistic review, considering the extensive course rigor (which led to the lower capped weighted GPA, mathematically). I am glad that he is happy with acceptance to UCSC and am crossing my fingers for him at UCSB too! Good luck to him, regardless!

My D25 and her bestie also accepted to viticulture. I’m a bit shocked b/c my other two daughters with similar stats were rejected. I guess we’ll be going to SLO over spring break!

For CPSLO, change of major requests take into account whether the student would have been admitted to the major when they originally applied. The student may wish to consider other acceptances if they have their heart set on Biology and wouldn’t be happy with the 2nd choice major.
Thank you! I learned that EESS was her 2nd choice major - I hadn’t had a chance to talk to her so I thought she was randomly assigned to something different. She feels good about this major although may try to change to a different major but within the same college.
I didn’t provide her stats in my prior post - I don’t know her SLO GPA, but her regular GPA was 3.83 UW/4.0 W. 5 APs.
I know I got into UCSB because I received the Chancellor’s Invitation. ![]()
Sounds exactly like my son, also OOS, also independent school, admitted for business administration. Congrats to both of them! He is so excited and is going for the admitted students day to decide if this is it for him!
Congrats!
It’s very odd that a school that accepts based purely on stats without test scores or EC lists or essays can distinguish between similarly stat applicants?
My son has almost identical academic profile, was accepted to UCSB w/regents, UCSD, Davis, USC, UNC, Stanford deferred but no decision (presumed rejection ) from SLO…
I have a similar profile as your son but have not been accepted yet from SLO, either. There are still going to be a few more admits, so I hope for the best. ![]()
I think they have access to state test results? If student didn’t try hard or was on vacation during test maybe that impacted things? No idea, just throwing it out there.
