SLO also counts middle school classes in language and math, if progression continues in HS.
For example, if Algebra is taken in 8th grade, then geometry in freshman year of HS, etc. Or geometry is taken in 8th grade, then Algebra II in the freshman year of HS, etc.
If you search MCA Cal Poly in College Confidential you will see a post about it which breaks it down. Itâs quite interesting. They consider senior year coursework, as well as 8th grade (for math and FL).
Ahhh, makes more sense now. By that rubric my daughter hits English and Math, though she still only has 3 years of a foreign language, so the standards must be somewhat malleable.
My sonâs is the same. Waitlisted with literally no other content. I suspect there will be more content in the portal later today. I think you need to opt into the waitlist to remain on it.
The partial list I provided is what it wants to see, not what it requires. Head of admissions provided us and others the list when we visited last year. It explains who gets in and why. I asked then whether my D who is interested in bio should take AP bio or a 5th year of English her senior year, and was told that if she was really interested in CalPoly she should take the 5th year of English. Bc CalPoly was not the top of her list, my D opted to take Ap bio instead. We havenât heard yet whether she was admitted, but I assume she will be rejected, as she did not meet many of their unique criteria. The school is fantastic. Iâm not knocking it AT ALL. I just think future applicants may wish to familiarize themselves with CalPolyâs unique admissions process before applyingâŠ..
I had two students apply to CP who both had 6 years of math, 4 years of FL, and one with 8 years of English by the end of their senior year. End of Jr year they had 4 years FL, 5 years math and the one had 7 years of English.
The 8 years of English is 4 years class level English and 4 years Journalism. Math was advanced math starting with Algebra 1 in 8th grade all the way thru Calc plus AP Stats. FL was 2 years in high school and 2 DE level 3 and 4 all before senior year. This was easily doable for my students.
