Cal Poly SLO Class of 2029 Freshman Discussion Thread

My son also rejected from Cal Poly.. lol

this would have hurt him alot more if it weren’t for acceptances to UCLA, UCSD, UCSB, Davis, USC, UNC, NYU, and presumably (per astrology), CAL… now it just doesn’t make much sense…

Bye Cal Poly

Are all these decisions coming in at the same time or updating at different times? We keep checking and still awaiting decision.

S25 also denied. in-state. 4.5W / 3.87 UW. SAT 1440. in-state acceptances to UCSD and perhaps Berkeley, if portal astrology holds. out of state acceptances to Clemson, NC-state, and others that he has already declined

Both of my sons were denied.

CP-SLO is welcome to use a different criteria than UCs to admit students. They should be transparent on their academic index calculation, so people don’t have to wonder if another english or arts course would have made a difference.

4 years of English and Science are really important for a SLO admittance–obviously not a guarantee.

They might also benefit from not torturing their applicants for the entire month of March every.single.year.

4 years of English is a CSU requirement. I think the the poster was talking about the additional recommendations of 5 years English and 2 years VPA.

FWIW in the tour last spring the admissions discussion was clear. We want to see 5 years of English and explained how to get there. It was on the website as well, but seniors we were touring with at the time commented that they didn’t know about it and wished they did.

Yet many admitted students do not have 5 years of English. Thank you for the information.

Agreed

Look up Cal Poly SLO MCA on this forum. You can see the (likely) formula.

It will be interesting when rejections start coming in how many kids were rejected with 5 years of English.
Last year when we went to the campus tour the speaker was very clear that they are looking for 5 years of English and 5 years of math. A lot of kids were seniors and looked defeated. My daughter was a junior and we had already seen this information on the website. She took and extra year of English and art at CC to ensure she maxed out with their requests. I understand that a lot of acceptances don’t have the extra English but I noticed when I was going through the rejections and waitlisted last year none of them seemed to have it either, and quite a few accepted did. I looks like all these kids have similar stats whether accepted , rejected or waitlisted. I think the extra year of English just helps set you apart.

Hopefully those denied will fill out the template with the years completed for each subject.

I have seen plenty of denials on Reddit and other sites today but doubt they will come to this discussion to post their stats.

Our daughter did not have the 5 years of English, but did have the 5 years of math. She is an accepted business major. I think the extra years of English or Math are helpful if related to your major. So do not necessarily need both. One or the other worked for us.

So does anyone know if we are still awaiting decision if there will be another round of rejections? I’m just curious if there will be any more acceptances other than the first wave and that’s it and all the other waves are rejections and waitlists. And will this come out the very last day of March?

My daughter also accepted had both. She decided on Cal Poly very early and planned her 10-12 grade courses on maximizing her chances of getting in.
