CAL POLY SLO TRANSFER STUDENTS 2019-2020

@XOcrew75 Thanks for sending me that link, do you know if any of the other CSUs offer major change pages like this?

@90smix I’m pretty sure all universities offer major change options and the deadline is usually Jan 31 most majors you should check out the college websites your applicant account page. they usually have a pretty prominent link to change it.

@XOcrew75 Okay thanks, I changed most UCs, just gotta do CSUs now.

Major: Art & Design, graphic design emphasis
GPA: 3.2
Current College: Grossmont College (San Diego)
CSU Breadth: Will be done in Spring
Golden 4: A, A, B, statistics in spring
Major requirements: All A’s

My major’s supplemental application was due on the 15th, now I’m anxiously waiting the portfolio part if I even get asked to show mine lol. Good luck to all!

A little late to the party, but still made it.

My stats:
Major: Business Administration
Current College: LPC
IGETC: Will be mostly done but I’m missing 2 Classes for my major (Macro Econ and Business Law)
Major requirements: 3/4 done.
GPA: 3.87
ECs: Business Club officer (VP), played athletic sport for CC (captain), working 16-20 hours a week
In-State, Out-of-State: In-state, Livermore
Credits after Spring 2019: 85

My daughter is a Sociology major.
4.0 GPA.
IGETC complete
Major prereqs all complete except 1.
Calpoly says you won’t be a competitive candidate if you are missing a single required prereq. Does that mean you absolutely won’t be considered if you are missing a class. They had so many that weren’t required at all the other schools. She has stats and soc 1 like all the schools require. But SLO wants several others which she did except for cultural geography. She’s not counting on getting in that’s for sure.

@sugarcane1 There is no guarantee you will be selected even if you have all the courses that make you competitive! there is always hope!!

@sugarcane1 You’re looking at this, correct? https://admissions.calpoly.edu/applicants/transfer/criteria.html

Your best bet is to call admissions, but here’s what I know.

You will STILL be considered, but yes: not “competitive.”

My brother went to Cal Poly, I know a lot through him. IIRC the most competitive majors are business, computer science, and engineering. For humanities/non-STEM majors, I THINK they will * first * accept people who completed the major requirements, giving them priority, then the other applicants. So, I believe your D still has a shot! Just my opinion. Also, missing one is not a big deal in my opinion. People get into UCs/CSUs without completing requirements quite a bit.

If you look under “Preliminary New Transfer Profile Fall 2018” it shows the average GPA for each school. https://admissions.calpoly.edu/prospective/profile.html & here https://www2.calstate.edu/attend/counselor-resources/Documents/transfer-2018-admission-impaction-chart.pdf

@radicalhuman111 that’s so true…no guarantees for anyone . Will keep thinking positively.
@90smix yes the link you provided is what my daughter has gone by. Thank you for your reply and words of encouragement?.

Hi everyone!

My stats:

Major: Chemistry
Current College: CC
IGETC: Complete
Major Requirements: Complete
Degrees: AS in Chemistry, AS-T in Physics
EC: 3 part-time jobs, 2 volunteer jobs
GPA: 4.0

Best of luck to all!

@sugarcane1 Missing major prerequisite might be a no. To transfer, the first thing they look at is that if you had finished all the prerequisites for the major. CalPoly, being competitive there would be a lot of other students that finished all the classes that they would prefer accepting.

@XOcrew75 yes the prereqs are usually a deal breaker. She’s applied to 11 schools ( UCs and CSU ) and has all the prereqs completed for 10 of them. Cal poly was the only one requiring a class no other school did . ). I will update here if she is accepted or rejected for any future applicants who may read this thread). Good luck everyone!

@ChicaDeScience1 you are getting in for sure. No doubt about it

Is everyone planning on living on campus for their first year after transfering if accepted? Personally I think I might stay on campus for the 2 or 2.5 years I’m there.

Major: Aerospace Engineering
Current College: Cuesta College in SLO
IGETC: 3/4 done, critical thinking missing as it’s not required/expected for aerospace.
Major Requirements: Last required class being taken this spring semester.
EC: 6-10 hours per week
GPA: 3.82 when I applied

First wave of admissions came in today around 11:30 am for out of state applicants! The waves are coming.

AHHHHHHHH

Are in-state transfers the lowest priority? Lol. But exciting news!! I cant wait much longer.

Hi everyone!
Here are my Stats:
Major: Business Admin(info systems)
Current College: Diablo Valley/Ohlone
IGETC: one critical thinking course left that I am taking right now
Major Requirements: Done plus some supported courses
EC: 25-30 hours a week (I’m not sure exactly how much I put on the app but I work two jobs, one as a student ambassador for DVC and the other as an intern for a Tech firm)
GPA: 3.66

So I had a question about AA-T degrees… I didn’t know what degrees I was going to receive so I didn’t put that on my application however, it turns out that I am eligible at my CC for both a business admin for transfer and econ for transfer is there a way to add them on now? Or email the admissions office? Because the GPA boost could really help my chances. Also good luck to everyone who applied!

Has anyone been accepted yet whose is a transfer student? Waiting to hear…
