Calarts anyone?

Has anyone been through the calarts audition this year? What was it like? How did it go?

yeah, I auditioned for them in January. it was nerve-racking at first, as is any college audition, because of the location being in an up-scale New York hotel. went up the elevator, stepped out, and made my way, along with my mom, down the hallway into the medium-sized, carpeted lobby space. there were chairs set up and not many people; probably 10 or so kids with their respective parents / guardians. it was dead silent. hahah…so anyway, flash forward. after we are spoken to by the head of MFA acting, this genuinely sweet, lovely woman, we are told to move our chairs in the hallway. we all clear out and then are given a running order for the auditions. I went… 10th I think, out of about 18 or 20 kids? I’m pretty sure that was the amount, although I could be wrong. anyway, several people auditioning were done VERY quickly. one girl had to have been in there for a minute and a half… how she completed two monologues and a follow-up question in that time? I don’t know. I guess it all depends!!
anyway, I was racking my brain for like, the hour or more I had to wait for my turn. but once I had to go, I felt okay in the room with the two women (the co-head of BFA acting and the head of MFA acting, both really nice, encouraging ladies). I slated and was off with my pieces! much to my surprise, I completed both two monologues without being stopped. throughout, I kept thinking in my head, “okay are they gonna stop me now?” i mean, auditioning in New York for a school that has flown across the country, you’d think they might be quick and snappy. so when I was finished, they asked why I wanted to apply to Calarts - what about it attracted me. I gave my answer, although after having just done two pieces in completion, I was ready to high-tale it out of there. then I was asked another question about training I had put down on my resume. they were pleased to know I had studied Butoh, since that was at Calarts a few years back.
So that’s basically it! I was happily surprised with out the audition went. The auditors seemed very pleased! I kept wondering if they were just being nice for the sake of it, but then I figured, why would they let me do both monologues, then ask 2 questions? I was probably in there for over 5 minutes.
I’ve yet to hear back from them but I’m really hoping for good news. I know this is the month they send out the decision letters, and a friend of mine got her’s March 1st, saying she was rejected. if I hadn’t gotten in, would I have gotten a letter the same day / week as her? or does it depend?

Hope this helped you, billyliar13!!
