My son has a lot of DE courses. In the cal state application after entering all the courses, you manually assign A-G to some of the DE courses. Depending on whether he assigns all of them, some of them or none, his GPA varies by 0.2

I am looking for confirmation that what he does in this A-G assignment step does not matter and some kind of check is done by the universities/AOs to make sure things are consistent.

The College academic section on the CSU application is separate and not all CSU’s will include those College courses in the CSU GPA calculation for admission purposes.

One example: SJSU considers only high school courses while computing GPA. The only exception is when someone does not have enough A-G high school courses to meet the requirements. At that point they will start pulling in college courses in respective areas until A-G is satisfied. Note: this information is from a parent that called admissions about DE courses and the calculated CSU GPA.

If they are categorized incorrectly, the CSU’s will make needed adjustments.

D25 is working on her Cal Poly SLO application. Clarifying questions: DE classes taken on the high school campus that appear on the high school transcript - where/how do these get reported? Do they go under the college section?
Also, when entering course names it says to enter as it appears on the transcript - does it matter that most course names don’t come up as autofill? Are they supposed to?

DE courses taken during HS even if they are on the HS transcript are reported under Colleges attended.

Enter the DE course names as listed on transcript and they are not expected to autofill since only HS a-g courses will autofill not College courses.

From the Cal State Apply FAQ:

Dual enrollment courses (college courses completed during high school) are considered Freshman and should be listed under the college where you took them. Do not report these courses again in the High School Coursework section even though they were taken while you were in high school. You will be able to match college courses to the A-G matching section

Thank you!

It’s actually the high school courses that aren’t autofilling. Is that an issue? We live in CA.

check if the HS was picked up correctly. Auto complete for courses needs the HS to be correct.

Linked is a helpful guide when filling out the CSU application including updates:

It was. It says the name of her high school.

I went and looked at the A-G course list here and when she uses those course names they auto populate. For example the transcript says the course is Honors MWH. On the A-G course list it is Modern World History (H)

I’m going to have her change the course names to match the A-G list, but most people wouldn’t know to do that or that a list like that even exists. I’m wondering if it makes a difference in the end?

I like when he says “Nobody Knows”. With 23 CSUs this might be true here.

@sfogooner

The UC a-g course list is linked a couple of times on the Cal state website under Freshman requirements and mentioned also in the Cal state application guide for entering courses.

My kid took a math 1 course (high school math course) in 8th grade. in the CSU instruction it says, enter any Math high school courses and tag them to the first high school attended (even though taken in 7/8th middle school).

one question here -
our middle school transcript shows up as quater system, so we have Q1 (A) Q2 (A) /Q3 (B) /Q4 (B) grades for this math course.
However, the high school is a semester system.

so how should enter the grade for this math course in CSU app. can we just take the Q2 and Q4 grades, and put them on S1 and S2 buckets ? or just take Q4 grade and put them on both S1 and S2 ?

Any guidance ? thanks

@Gumbymom I see you are the original author of this thread, so checking to see if its okay to use this thread as its old, happy to re-post in a right place if needed. thanks,

I merged your posts into the New Class of 2029 CSU discussion thread.

For entering multiple grading terms, you list the HS twice with each type of grading terms.

Then enter the Middle school Math with the appropriate grading term.

To enter middle school grades in the California State University (CSU) application, you can do the following:

  1. Go to the High School Coursework section
  2. Select Add a High School Course
  3. Set the grade level to the middle school grade you completed the course
  4. Select the high school you attended in 9th grade
  5. Select the academic year you attended 9th grade
  6. Click the green checkmark to save

thanks,

So we will have two entries for the first high school (one with quarter system that lists the high school Math course taken in 8th grade) - (Even though the high school is in a semster system.)
and then one entry of same high school in a semester system that will contain all high school courses from 9th grade onwards.

Is that right ? @Gumbymom

Yes, correct.

Just a minor follow up question here to make sure we did it correctly.

The math and LOTE course we took in 8th grade, will be entered as 8th grade course, but mapped to the 9th grade high school in the 9th grade academic year. But it will still show up as 8th grade course work. Is that right ? thanks,

@Gumbymom
