Can a merit scholar who finishes bachelor's in 3 years get scholarship funds towards masters in year 4?

My student is a national merit scholar and due to AP credits is finishing her degree at the end of year 3. She has already started masters classes and will be doing only Master’s level courses in year 4. Does anyone know if she still qualifies to receive funds that year?

I don’t but why don’t you ask financial aid?

I believe it depends on who awarded the scholarship.

If that is your real name, I recommend that you change it to something more anonymous.

There’s no blanket answer here. You’ll have to ask whoever awarded the scholarship and also the school she’s attending.

Depends on the school awarding the scholarship.

At Alabama, yes.

At other schools - you’d have to look up their national merit award and terms.

Good luck.

Your kid needs to ask at HER college!

An option maybe to not graduate, to continue being an undergrad and just take masters level classes, and when the scholarship ends to apply for the undergrad degree. She may also be done with her masters at the same time and have a double graduation.

My nephew did this at his school, and was encouraged to do it by the department. He didn’t have any scholarships but benefited by remaining an undergrad as the tuition was cheaper and he could qualify for other things if needed like federal loans and grants. If at any time he didn’t want to continue the masters year, he could just stop, apply for graduation and get his diploma (he’d completed all the requirements).

See if her school allows that.

At Alabama…kind of. Once you are no longer an undergrad, you will lose the housing, stipend, and book scholarship. You maintain tuition for graduate school.
