A search on CC is invaluable ! D just accepted a job in Atlanta and will be moving there this summer after graduation. Her job is in Buckhead - close to the Lenox mall I believe. Don’t know any other specifics. She’d like to find a 1 bedroom apt near there to rent - maybe even look at furnished apartments if reasonable. She will have a car - but if it works out, she can walk to work. She will likely need parking at her apt and hopefully laundry facilities in the building.
What should she be looking at for rent in this area?
From the looks of it, Buckhead is considered “uptown” and might be a bit expensive. Would it better for her to live elsewhere and commute to Buckhead? Saw Jym’s suggestions above and will definitely get her to take a look at post properties.
Most of the apts will have w/d connections in their unit, but should also likely have a communal one available. Knowing what her budget is for renting may help narrow down the area to look. Many who work in the Lenox area and dont want to pay Buckhead rent rates live in Brookhaven or over by Emory, or in the Virginia-Highlands/Old Fourth Ward/Inman Park/Poncey Highland area. Fun, older but revitalized area with the very popular beltline walk/bike paths. Feel free to PM me. Happy to help. The west side is also growing fast, but probably less convenient travelwise. http://www.westmidtowndesigndistrict.com/
We did look at post properties near Buckhead. The ones closest seemed to be anywhere between 1200-1500$. She felt that was a little too high. The one in Brookhaven was a bit more reasonable - 800$. I think she would like to keep it under 1000$. How’s the commute from Brookhaven to Buckhead? Can she take the MARTA? Is this a reasonably safe area? I am inclined to have her stay closer to work and pay a bit more if that happens to be a safer area.
@jym626 - you mentioned living near Emory. That actually sounds interesting - something she might consider. How’s the commute from there to Buckhead? Also, she will be traveling a fair amount for work - is this going to affect where she should look for apartments?
Yes, the MARTA runs from Brookhaven to Buckhead- maybe a 10 min ride? The drive would probably be 20- 30 mins depending on traffic. I would not have a problem with my daughter living in the area.
@sally22 - thanks! D headed back to school today - but we will be talking/looking at possible places for her to live. I think it’s time for a visit to Atlanta sometime - maybe get away from our single digit weather for a few days !!
There has been construction around Emory so she should consider that when she looks at housing, as thraffic can get congested and there is no MARTA directly to Emory. Brookhaven might be smarter b/c if she plans to travel a lot MARTA goes straight to the airport.
Like the idea that she could take the MARTA to the airport - would come in very handy, especially if she’s coming home for a week or two. Will ask her to look into this. Thanks @jym26.
