To be honest, i am an average student, with 7, 7.2 and 6 CGPA (CBSE) in first 3 years of high school, being now in class 12th. I really, really wanna join Columbia university. But these grades always make me feel low. I wanna do my best this year. Both in CGPA and SATs. But, will this compensate my CGPAs.
No.
Is their any hope? Or…
Honestly, it’s a waste of time.
Agreed. Forget about the Ivy Leagues.
Do you forget to breathe?
No. Do I forget about my homework? Yes.
Do I forget that without hard work, getting into an Ivy League is impossible? No, but apparently you did. So if you want to send your substandard GPAs to Columbia, be my guest. You’ll lose around $150 just applying. To me, you’re just another Indian that can’t see other good universities beyond the Ivy Leagues, Stanford, or MIT.
So, what do you think. Which is the best possible shot for me.
Honestly, I can’t say much. You can give Iowa State a try, it’s very good. Ohio University might be a reach, but give it a shot. Texas A&M might also be a reach, but give that a try.You can also try South Dakota State University, you might have a good shot at that. What’s your SAT/ACT score?
How much can you pay for college education?
Are these grades out of 10? If they are, frankly, I can’t imagine a US school you could get into. You realize a 6 is equivalent to a D-in the states? You need to make other plans, but not for a US school. Sorry, but something went wrong in your school work, and that’s what you have to figure out.
@ZBD5421 Yep, those are out of 10. I know they’re dreadful, but individual universities actually recognize the Indian grading system. For example, Iowa State requires a minimum of 60% in the twelfth grade of CBSE, which I think this guy is in. It might be a long shot, but he has a slim chance.
Don’t bother with Ivies. If you feel really compelled to give big schools a shot, then try private ones like MIT which give you loads of space to express yourself. Make sure you have a solid SAT score before you apply though. But don’t forget there are loads of schools which are academically strong and cost way less than Ivies or the large private ones. You may try Purdue( accepts a lot of Indians), Penn State, Ohio State, USC etc. Do a bit of research and I’m sure you can find a match.
I don’t have any problem with my SAT score, its 2280. My EFC is about 5000 USD (3,00,000 INR). It’s just gpa that is concerning me. And I really wanna do my best this time.
If you are in Class 12, are you trying for 2016 Fall admissions. The admission deadlines for most of the universities are over except rolling admissions in some universities. If you are applying for 2016 Fall, you need to do a lot of research before applying for what schools are reach, match, and easy according to your GPA and SAT/ACT scores. Go to a good counselor nearer to you for best advice. you can’t change the GPA and some universities weigh more on GPA.
With those scores and that EFC, good luck getting into any US school. Why don’t you try for a community college, work your ass of, and transfer to a good school that gives generous aid to internationals. Sorry to break your bubble buddy, but at this point of time you got no chance at all.
imbecile, are you saying that with being familiar with the Indian grading system?
@BrownParent He is. The OP’s GPA is terrible, no doubt about it. If his CGPA were to be translated into a 4.0 scale, he’d be averaging around 2.4-2.8. Plus, he’s an international, which means he’ll be up against people who have better GPAs. It’s not that he has no hope, some colleges like Iowa State accept Indian students studying in CBSE with a CGPA of 6.0+, but he shouldn’t expect much with that CGPA.
Plus, the A-level (I’m studying this) and IB applicants from India are lesser in number compared to the CBSE/ISC students, but a lot of them will have better grades. The competition is immense.
Hey everyone, I also have same problem. My CGPA is somewhat like him. I wanna know what is minimum indian CGPA for NYU. Do I have any chance for this?
