I’ve had some depression issues thus far in college and my gpa isn’t too great. It’s a 2.5 right now, but that includes some F’s. I am planning on transferring to the University of Georgia soon. Minus the F’s and grades that won’t transfer, my GPA is around a 2.95. If I can manage to get my cumulative to around a 3.5, do I stand a chance? I am also in-state. I’m planning on getting more involved and writing a really inspirational essay.

No one here can really tell you your chances of getting into UVA. However, what we can tell you is that you have ZERO chance if you DON’T apply. You want to put your best foot forward and show hard work and improvement. If you can do that, it’s a start. Personally, I would say that an inspirational essay is great, but it needs to positively address the admissions question(s) and you don’t want to focus on negatives - especially personal issues. Those can seem like compelling essays to the individual who writes them, but may not be the best topical choice from an admissions review standpoint. Good luck.

I don’t understand the premise that is being put forth.
What do you mean “minus the F’s?”
All grades count, even the bad ones.

It would be like me saying “minus my grey hair, the bags under my eyes, my short stature and stomach rolling over my belt, I look just like George Clooney.” ;)

^^^^^Don’t sell yourself short…even George Clooney has grey hair and bags under his eyes! And he’s only 5 ft. 10 inches tall.

^^^^

Come to think of it, you’re right.
Clooney and I do look a lot alike.
