I’m currently a junior and I want to major in comp sci, but I don’t know how to code. I’m decent at maths and have just finished Calc BC. I’m concerned that my lack of experience with computer science itself will be an obstacle in the course. Is this true?
Why not learn? If you’re really interested in comp sci, you wont mind learning to code in your free time, and there are plenty of free online options to self teach.
We all had to start at some point. Summer between junior and senior year of high school is a perfectly good time to start. You are NOT too late. Being good at math will help a lot (as you probably already know).
All schools will offer courses made for absolute beginners. They usually require this intro course that can be tested out of for those with experience. I was accepted to UT Austin with virtually no experience!
There are tons of free sources out there that can help you learn to code in a couple months. You are still a junior, there is plenty of time. You still have the senior year left, so you could start AP CompSci A or something along those lines.
