With the way things are looking now, i’ll probably have to get a job over the summer. I have asperger’s syndrome and adhd, and i’m really timid. I have a hard time going to class sometimes because it involves me being around others. I also have a very hard time talking with others as well.

Can someone please give me some advice? I’m really at a loss of what to do and i’m currently stressing over it really bad.

Thanks.

How about the local library? Either for a job, or for other resources in looking for the right job for you.

mousegray, that’s exactly what I was writing. :)

icedragon, you need to look for jobs where you will not have to interact with too many people. A library job would be perfect for that. Another idea if you like pets: look for a local kennel that might need a helper to walk and wash dogs, etc.

I don’t drive and the library near home closed :(

How about making a bunch of flyers to advertise your new business (pick one):

Dog Walking/Pet Care - lots of people going on vacation over the summer

Lawn Mowing

Weeding

More ideas…Check out Craigslist (with a trusted adult previewing ads before you call).

Go and fill out applications at places which might have jobs that would suit you (warehouse, nursery, data input, budding tables, etc.).

Think about what you like doing, and what you are good at. Let those two things guide you in your quest.

Lastly, give yourself a break and try not to stress out! Good luck. :)

If you’ve got good on-line and web skills, you could design web pages and teach people who to use the Internet. You could advertise through flyers. Could do this work one on one.

You say that you “have” to get a job over the summer, but you don’t drive. How are you (or your family) expecting you to get to this job? Is there public transportation?
