DD = Dear Daughter
DS = Dear Son
DH = Dear Husband
DW = Dear Wife

There is a list somewhere… not sure where though

S1 = first son
D1 = first daughter

S18 = son in college class of 2018
D18 = daughter in college class of 2018

CC = College Confidential or community college (figure it out from context)

HYPS = Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Stanford

<a href=“Abbreviation Thread - Parents Forum - College Confidential Forums”>Abbreviation Thread - Parents Forum - College Confidential Forums;

D18 or S18 can also mean “18 year old daughter” or “18 year old son” to distinguish from D12 “12 year old daughter.” Sometimes you need to take even acronyms in context.

I always assumed that S12 or whatever meant son graduating in 2012. (or whatever)

Ha, I always use the number for my kid’s age!

EFC = Expected Family Contribution

HYPSMC = as above plus MIT & Caltech (themselves abbreviations, but if you’re here, you probably know them)

WASetc. = Williams, Amherst, Swarthmore, and their ilk, or shorthand for the most selective LACs

GC = high school guidance counselor

HS = high school

All the AP courses have common shorthands: APGov, APUSH, APChem, etc. Ditto the SAT subject tests. You can figure these out in context.

CSS & FAFSA = financial aid forms

or as Curmudgeon claims, EFC = Every Friggin’ Cent ;)

You may also see S2 meaning second son or D3 third child daughter.
