Can somone help me with my LOR situation? I have tight timeline issue

I’m an international student applying to many fully funded scholarships (CSC, Stipendium Hungaricum, Türkiye Burslari, and others) etc. My teachers asked me to write LOR on their behalf and they will make changes on it.

Should each letter name the specific scholarship or university, or is one general letter is fine?

Does a tailored letter really improve my chances?

My school isn’t familiar with students applying abroad unlike me, so at first the office head just rejected me saying we can’t give you school letter head then i talked to principle and he agreed but he still had doubts… I can’t go with 30 pdf in my hand asking to give letter head on it, I will be rejected super fast, i tried asking for school letter head template and they refused.

Solution 1: either i push the School again which is gonna result badly for not just this but for future documents as well

Solution 2: scholarships shouldn’t prefer specific lor which is unrealistic .

Solution 3: i just have to make small changes like “i recommend… to (uni name 1) university” and change it into “i recommend… to (uni name 2) university” for that what’s the best tool i can use? I tried ms word but it’s just disorienting my whole word file. What tools i can use or some other ways.

Usefull advice would be very much appreciated.

Thanks!

  1. You shouldn’t see the recommendation - so you shouldn’t go anywhere with 30 pieces of paper.

I’d assume they are interested in you. I’m sure the letter needn’t mention an award at all because the award isn’t being evaluated, you are.

Perhaps it’s different internationally but it’s how I see it.

Good luck.

@MYOS1634 is very familiar with international applicants and systems and may be able to offer guidance.

No, some universities ask the student to submit pdf while some send invitations to the teachers email address, in both cases, student can tell the teacher the exact specific name and teacher would write it addressing to that university - this is what would have happened if I were in USA or smth

I’m in India,

  1. They don’t know how to write it
  2. I’m writing for them(for me), not mentioning awards or anything just evaluating myself.
  3. The universities or scholarships I’m applying to… Their previous admision officer said “student ask me can I write general lor?” He goes on “OFC you can but, should you? No”
  4. So i need to be specific and not be general, that’s the whole root of the problem.

Hi, I’m applying for fully funded undergraduate scholarships abroad, but I’m facing an issue with my Letters of Recommendation (LORs).

My school has no experience with international applications. After several requests, my principal finally agreed to provide school letterhead for my LORs. My teachers are willing to review and sign drafts I prepare.

I have to change “i recommend (my name) to (university name 1) university” to “i recommend (my name) to (university name 2) university”. This small thing is forcing me to make another lor and get school letter head on it as well.

I am in stuck in a tight timeline to apply so, any help would be very much appreciated

I’ve shortlisted 12–15 universities, some requiring one LOR and others two. Since some universities prefer being addressed by name, I may need 30+ versions of my LORs, each requiring separate letterhead.

My questions:

1. Is there a tool to edit the university’s name on a scanned LOR without distorting the document?

2. Is there a better solution, such as using a general LOR for multiple universities?

3. Do universities actually require institution-specific LORs, or is this just a preference?

I’d really appreciate advice from people with firsthand experience applying to international universities or competitive scholarships. Thanks!

Note: ik I’m asking a student shouldn’t be able to see lor, but in my case I’m writing it coz my teachers aren’t good in english and it’s very common in india, so I’ll prepare it based on your good advices and get school letter head on it accordingly.. and send my teachers those pdf, so universities who require teacher to submit it, that would be don’t by my teacher and those who require students to submit it- that would be done by me.

I’m sorry but it’s very hard to follow exactly what you are asking. Are you applying to US universities through the Common App?

No I’m not, I’m applying to scholarships for undergraduates applied by countries, I’m not asking anything related to common app, i have nj business there

Your other thread mentions “12-15 universities”. So none of these are in the U.S.?

Typically, a recommender writes one letter about you that is sent to all schools. They are not specific to the school and they are sent electronically.

Your scholarship applications may have a different mechanism so you’ll need to check each one’s requirements.

And you should not be writing your own letters.

Wishing you best of luck.

@MYOS1634 somone tagged me saying you can help me, i would really appreciate it if you do… Please see my post, this is not for American College or common app, it’s for scholarship provided by countries lie stipendium Hungarian or csc or turkey, please tell me proper solutions to my problem, i have already explained everything in detail

Thank you it’s really helpful, the thing is I’m receiving both kind of advices, some say general works which sounds logical and how it should be others say you need to be specific, thank you anyways for helping me, best of you to you as well.

Unfortunately this is a US based site, focused on admission to US schools, so there may not be anyone here that is familiar with what you are asking.

In the US, it would be considered unethical for a student to write their own recommendations. Students give “brag sheets” describing their achievements if their teachers don’t know them well, but teachers write a general recommendation, which the student does not see, and it’s submitted electronically.
