Can Subject SAT II Tests hurt?

My daughter is concerned about submitting her Subject SAT II scores. She did well on the SAT (2120) and carries a 4.29 GPA, top 5.1% class rank. She has a very difficult course schedule with a total of 9 AP classes (5 in her senior year). She is president of the National Honor Society and Captain of the track team. She also has some other impressive community service and leadership activities. She didn’t do as well on the Subject SAT tests and is worried that it may hurt her chances for admission. Can submitting lower subject SAT scores hurt? (580-650 range)

I was told yes but my college counselor but not much in the scheme of things…already done…so hope she is wrong!

An average score on a one hour exam is not going to derail her application! I always tell students that the subject tests are nice to have and I think they are too hard on themselves (the range you gave isn’t bad!). If sending the score is causing her anxiety, tell her not to do it.

Thank you! very helpful.

UVA applicants stress WAY too much over those subject tests…

This is so weird those are the exact test scores and extracurriculars that I had! And I got in, no problem and even got a note on my acceptance letter saying my credentials were impressive, so she’ll definitely be fine, more than fine even.

My son did not have strong SAT II scores and he is currently a happy second year student at UVA. I wouldn’t worry about it, they truly do look at the “whole picture”.
