I am curious how Canadian percentage grades translate to SAT scores.

For example, does 2100 = 90%, does 2300 = 95%? etc,

Could Canadian students who took the SAT post their percentage grade and SAT? Thanks!

Umm… I think youre a little confused as to how the SAT percentiles work

A score doesnt mean you got a “90%”, it might place you in the “90th percentile” which means that you did better than 90 percent of test takers

For instance (with me):
W: 720, 97th percentile
M: 680, 91st percentile
CR: 690, 94th percentile

So, I did, on average, better than 91% of test takers… though it doesnt mean that I got a 91% on the SATs

Well, I got 90.6 % average my grade 11 year and it was a very demanding courseload so I would assume around 94 or 95 % at a non-IB courseload. I got a 2200 superscored. I don’t think there is that much of a correlation though.

@thatguy: I am not questioning the percentiles on the SAT. Rather, how do SAT scores match up with Canadian high school percentage grades.

OHH. My bad, I misunderstood your question.

I got a 2090 on my SAT, and I am holding ~95% average…

But, like Alam, I dont think that there is any real correlation

Thanks, just curious. I’ve been wondering how to convert Canadian percentage grades to US high school grades. The SAT is the only thing in common. I realize correlations are nearly impossible.

I have a 94% average overall, and it’s peaked at the high 90s in grade 12.

I have a 2160 super-scored (800M 680 CR 680W). I wish Canadian High Schools emphasized more on vocab and grammar >.>

All we did is how to interpret themes (ex. what the author really meant from this line) from books, and I totally bombed the CR the first time I did the SAT because I never picked the literal answer which is stated in the passage…

Also, don’t spend time worrying about how to convert Canadian grades to American ones. At my school where about 40 out of 300 get over 90 usually never has anyone going to schools in the States, but another where 3 out of 300 get over 80 has about 2 people going to MIT each year…

Basically, just do well with what you have, and do better than others so you can stand out.

It would be lovely is Canadian schools focused on grammar and vocab a bit too. Im sick of deriving the “deeper meaning”

And, TheDude, where are you headed to college? USA or Canada?

Education in Canada is overseen by each provincial government. Questions about ‘canadian’ education can’t be answered because it depends upon the province in which one resides. The grading system, norms, exams, courses and curriculum vary greatly by province. Thus for example, grammar is extensively taught in grades 9 and 10 in BC, maybe in other grades in other provinces maybe not at all in others.

I just finished Grade 10… However I don’t have my provincial scores yet.

My school average (minus Band, PE, and Biblical Studies) is 99%.

I took the practice SAT from college board and got 2250…

Concerning English and grammar/literal meaning, I really believe it depends on the teacher. The standards set by British Columbia, at least, are quite vague and thus the teacher can teach whatever they want. My teacher taught nothing about grammar in BC English 10! That was reserved for English 5-7… lol.

^ holy moly nice average! I don’t mean to be nosy, but what is it with the mandatory PE, and electives?
My English teachers have been useless for 3 years just saying.

The averages vary vastly from province to province, school to school, and even teacher to teacher. It is impossible to find a correlation unless you narrow it down from just “Canadian” averages. Even then I don’t think there’s much of anything.

Average: ~97% for 9 course load
SAT: 2350 first try

School average = 84%

SAT = 2250, with 800 CR

Smart slacker, or harsh school? You be the judge.

I had a 2260 in 1 sitting, and like an 89ish average? I didn’t study much for school though…always left things till the night before.
