Car runs over pedestrians on the Las Vegas strip

Currently, 1 dead and at least 30 injured.

I don’t know why, but this has always been one of my biggest fears. I always walk as far away from the curb as possible.

What a bizarre incident…

And she had a 3 year old in the back seat.

Horrendous and how frightening. The driver of course, not injured - or not seriously, right? - can only imagine what he “story” is.

I walk alot where I live and always walk far away from the curb too. But I see many people walking with their BACK to traffic. Don’t know how they do that and stay sane.

South Florida is not known for its safe drivers.

ETA: Horrible story. :frowning:

Police are accusing the driver of having intentionally driven into the crowd:

I suspect more “copycat” behavior after that Oklahoma State incident.

Wow, that is so sad. A 3-year-old in the car?!?!?

I don’t think this was copycat behavior. I think if anything, it sounds like this woman was having a mental breakdown. It would be one thing if she was going after her partner, but just random people? And they said she just stared straight ahead.

That poor child. I hope she has family that can take her in and isn’t put into foster care.

What is interesting to me was that they almost immediately said “this is not an act of terrorism.” Hm, wonder how they ruled it out so fast…

Maybe it was obvious from the way that she was acting that it was s mental breakdown, or some sort of incapacitation. It seems likely.

As screwed up as terrorists are/can be, I cannot fathom a woman committing an of terrorism with a child in the car, even the screwed up woman in San Bernandino didn’t have her child with them. I suspect this is some sort of mental break or maybe drugs, but it is hard to tell. From what I read they are charging her with death in the second degree for the dead victim, which indicates it wasn’t an accident but rather she did it deliberately.

If the story I saw on morning news is accurate, I don’t think that there is any doubt that she did it deliberately. She not only did it once, but she did it twice! She mowed down a group of people, then went back out onto the street and a short distance later, put her car in reverse and backed up onto the sidewalk to do it again. Then drove on to a hotel parking lot.

I listened to the presser in the car, I believe CNN. The reporters seemed to be disappointed it wasn’t an act of terrorism. Unfortunately these crazy things happen, not everything is an act of terrorism. She sounds like she had a mental break.

The woman who was killed was the mother of three young girls.

the woman made a statement why she did it. the sheriff feels “uncomfortable” releasing what she said. so I would say it comes down to one of two things, and political correctness is trumping the truth being exposed by the sheriff. shame on him! and shame on the media for not pushing the issue (or they know and agreed to keep it quiet…shame on them)

Sad.

She wanted attention and played the part of a pouty child in the courtroom.

Intentionally killing and maiming people, with her kid in the seat, says a lot about her character/mental health.

@zobroward Im curious. What truth is being denied due to political correctness? She appears to have had a mental breakdown for whatever reason. Is there more to the story?

yes, the sheriff is refusing to say what she told them. he said he is “uncomfortable” releasing her stated motive. so you tell me what she said that he will not repeat.

I don’t have a theory other than she seems to har had a mental break, somewhat like some of the theater shootings. I just thought you knew of something I hadn’t heard as I haven’t followed it closely.

I did she a video of her talking about how she overcame homelessness and had a great job. It was quite inspirational. Her family says she was not out of work and had a home, so at is why I concluded she had some type of mental issue.

This article said she was living/sleeping in her car:

If the family says everything was fine, it could be that she had a mental issue or there is another possibility that things went south, and she was hiding her troubles form her family pretending everything was still fine.

This is such a sad story…

It is a horrible story, but why do you think the public is immediately entitled to know what she said before the legal process even gets started? We live in an age of expecting immediate information, and that is not always the prudent thing.
