I’m struggling in my stem classes. I’m in all honors and ap classes, however, I struggle in stem. I usually take a lot of time to answer my questions and my answers would always be detailed to a fault and I would overthink questions so much that I would end up getting questions wrong simply because I overcomplicated it. I usually take a long time for both homework and tests, and I feel like I am a very slow thinker. When I do attempt to work fast, I end up making a lot of mistakes and errors in the process. Does my processing ability hinder my chances of becoming an engineer and could my problems be solved? What are some good high-paying career options for someone who isn’t the best at science and math, or need more time/ peaceful environment?
Do you really want to be an engineer? Why if you do? I think practice makes perfect, so while you may need to do more outside work than some classmates, don’t think of it as impossible.
I’m not really sure what jobs to recommend, but I hope you’ll find something you enjoy. Good luck!
As an actual engineer, slow thinking is not an issue. You need to think about a problem for a while sometimes.
However, you do need to be able to figure out when it is time to be very detailed and when you need to just communicate the gist of the matter.
I would suggest that you work with someone on homework…not how to solve it, but what to solve and how much detail. This could be a classmate, a tutor, or the teacher.
Also take some time to look back on the questions you get, how complicated you made them, and how in the future you could approach it. Can you see a pattern?
Also I would say that you should consider getting evaluated for learning disabilities…then you coudl get extra time on tests.
