Carnegie Mellon Class of 2028 Official Thread

Were school of engineering results released ?

The letter doesn’t say. I had to go back to look up what S24 applied for.

safe to assume no more results coming out.

says not found

Did last year’s results also come out in waves?

now it does. I guess the realized people had access when they should not because before it was working

My friend says maybe the pattern is that they’re releasing in order of who submitted first? I don’t know though, maybe it’s just random? Oh well, crossing my fingers it’s tomorrow and not later.

Did the kids only get acceptances today or rejections & waitlists too?
I am wondering if the rolling results only includes acceptances or others.

I’ve seen rejections but I have not seen anyone mention getting waitlisted today.

Anyone know if CM sends an email when the decision is in the portal? My son has yet to receive a decision and is not sure if he should keep checking the portal or wait for an email.

My kid has friends who have been admitted and rejected but no wait lists yet. He and some others haven’t heard yet, which is weird.

Did his friends get an email to check the portal?

DS got into Civil Engineering. He never got an email.

Thanks and congrats!!!

Anyone know what the plan is for the next waive of decisions? Tomorrow at X time, for example?

Never understood
why a college would release results in waves
What do they gain from holding results for couple more days? Do they get better insight into enrollment? Is it just for administrative reasons? Or they just want to be different from others?

found answer on reddit that is a bit convincing

"Lets them manage their class size. Say your class is 2000 and expected yield is 33%, so you admit 6000 expecting 1/3 to enroll. Oh ■■■■! Your projections were wrong, and 3000 enrolled instead! Now you’re having to put students up in hotels, nobody can get their classes, you have to hire a bunch of adjuncts, etc.

So maybe instead you admit 2000 and measure how many have committed (by a certain date) relative to past years, to estimate whether your 33% yield projection was accurate or not. It starts to look like your yield estimate was way low, and 50% of offered applicants are accepting (projection = 1000). So, since you really want to avoid over-enrolling, you build in a buffer and suppose that actual yield might be as high as 66%. You have 1000 spots left, you admit 1500 in a 2nd batch. Oh look- this batch is also yielding at 50%, meaning you’re going to be short 250 students. So you release a third batch of 500, expecting 250 to enroll.

Only 200 enroll from this third batch, meaning your class is going to be 50 short of what you hoped. So you start admitting students that you waitlisted earlier until you find 50 who’ll enroll. "
