I am not sure what exactly they can control. Very few students will accept the offer right now. Those who applied to CMU likely applied to Ivies + other top level, still waiting for the decision.
It is probably for their Application Portal System maintenance.
Yes, and the other pattern that seems to be there is that acceptances have been for students reporting scores so far (except for performance majors that involve auditions). I have been noticing it in the reported stats for accepted students. My son did great on his SAT but CMU said itâs average SAT score was 1600 and that only about 40% of accepted students reported their scores last year, so he got gun-shy and went test-optional. Maybe more portal astrology, but have not seen any test optional reports except for a performance major.
If large public universities(UMASS,OSU etc) can rolldown all results in a space of hours, I cant fathom how/why CMU(leading CS university) cannot rollout in one-shot.
Was it same always previous years ?
I find that hard to believe.
Just to chime in on the SAT score conversation, my son is Mellon College of Science class of 2026 so this 2022 data was from his year. At that time, they were saying average SAT score for MCS was 1540. People generally donât submit if they arenât at the 50th percentile, which in effect makes the average score increase. It is possible it is 1600 for SCS? Or Engineering? Maybe they were quoting something school specific. FWIW, and just in case anyone who is applying in the future is reading this, my son turned in his 1500 with his application, which at the time was 40 points below the average for MCS, and he was accepted.
My D24 submitted 1550 SAT, mid year 3.9+ UW, Strong leaderships and ECs, and strong architecture portfolio. Still waiting for a decision for architectre.
Also waiting for my decision. 1550 SAT, 4.0 UW, Strong ECs, and waiting for physics (I havenât seen any decisions for this major so far?) So far accepted to Georgia Tech, Northeastern, and UCSD, and waitlisted by MIT and UCLA as an international student.
My son has not heard. He applied to Dietrich for English. Non-weighted 3.9/4.0. NMF 1570 SAT not super scored. Rigorous classes. ECs in Theatre, ComSci, Latin, Student Gov, Film.
I donât think the roll out of decisions has to do with reporting your scores.
No, this year appears to be an unusual departure from at least the last couple of years. While CMU announced that decisions would be released from the 15th through the end of the month this year, there was no information offered as to the rationale behind the sequencing of the releases. Itâs a bit of a mystery.
Edited to add: Good luck to you and other families awaiting decisions. I hope they come through quickly.
Even MIT average SAT is 1560-1580. I cast a doubt on 1600 at CMU
They just mentioned Batches and the chat got hung !!
So they accepted nobody with a 1590? Lol
S24 went TO.
He got in, computer engineering.
As of now, results came out for:
Test scores submitted or not.
Different schools.
Domestic and International.
Acceptances and Rejections.
Havenât seen a single waitlist so far. Many are still waiting to hear including ED deferred to RD.
Perhaps they might have added a few rejects to the first batch to not make us sad and think we got rejected/waitlisted if we werenât part of that first batch.
Most deferrals usually end in rejections. i think someone a few days back in this thread said they were deferred and got admitted.
Just spoke to someone in the undergrad admissions. Apparently there was an issue while loading all the decisions on March 15th. They are working on them and will be released within the next couple of days. Next batch would be at 5 PM today.
This batch release was not intentional. Just system issues.
