I called like right now and they said with in a few weeks . My friend keeps rubbing it in that he got accepted already and I haven’t
@Anonymous93 Is this for the AI program?
i called them today and they said since the admissions are rolling 3-6 weeks should be the expected wait time They also said that a notification will be sent out regardless of whether you got in or not
Gosh I just don’t understand why they got some out and others not… My email today (acknowledging the updated test scores I just sent in a couple days ago) said they’d be out by the end of the week… but that is what they have been saying for over a month now.
Seems there’s not much order, I got everything in early (just like some of you still waiting) but yet people who turned theirs in late has already gotten word back.
I just don’t get it, lol. I just want to hear back, so I can start thinking about other things to do in the summer instead, that I have been holding off until I recieve my SAMS decision… congrats btw to those who got in within the past few days!!
@astromae2001 This might sound bad but they may be accepting people who are their ‘ideal’ applicant first (people who would really benefit from the program being free while being diverse at the same time). Then, based on whether these kids accept or reject their admission, they continue filling the spots with others; this might be why one of the commenters on here said that one of their ‘super qualified’ friends got in at the very end, and lots of people who submitted really early still haven’t heard back. I think we really can’t do anything but wait, which sucks, but it probably just means we aren’t at the top of their list.
does that mean they could have reviewed the application but in a sense “deferred” it? Not to be pretentious or anything but I did feel like I demonstrated a great desire to do AI, I live in RI, a place with probably not a lot of applicants, and my ACT stands at a 35. Of course I don’t fit into the niche of URM or Poor, I’m certain they need people like me to create true diversity
@MyGPAIsAnL I think you’re right to say they kinda deferred it. It’s just the truth that this program is literally called ‘summer opportunities for access and inclusion’ and is being funded by someone. A program like this would realistically cost at least 6000$ out of pocket, based on program costs like SSP, and someone is paying for ALL of that. These people probably want kids who are accepted to be the ones who would most benefit, like people who can’t pay that much for a program or are historically underrepresented in STEM fields. You might get accepted or you might not, but I personally just think that they’re taking people who they aim to help first, not that I am one of them or anything. If you showed that you were interested and qualified then they might take you too–then again, who knows, I’m not an admissions counselor so maybe I am completely wrong.
I got in a while back with decent at best grades/test scores and I am not anywhere close to being an URM. I think what granted my spot at SAMS is my dedication to cs as opposed to what I previously stated.
So I don’t know what to do. I applied to a few other programs and only got accepted into one, but I have to commit by Sunday to secure my spot. I haven’t gotten a rejection from CMU (at least not yet) and I’m still really hoping that I will get in, but I also need to do something this summer. Should I commit to the other program or wait for CMU?
Depends on whether or not you think you will get into SAMS and how good the other program is.
Did anybody ger into the art or design program?
@ElfishPresely Yeah, a couple people on this thread have.
@MyGPAIsAnL I believe that is partially correct. They create a wait list prior to when decisions start to come out.
@Taurino2001 They would.
@astromae2001 I know, the waiting game can be quite a crazy process. This is why you should always have a backup plan. Go ahead and confirm those other plans. You probably shouldn’t wait on SAMS to notify you.
@SG2468 I was that commenter and yes, that is the half the point of the program. Ultimately, the program is meant to aid URMs and low-income students in STEM, but also as a way for accepted students to consider going to CMU. This is likely why they select students who are and aren’t low-income. Also, SAMS, out of pocket, would be $10K. A couple associations paid for us to be there.
@MyGPAIsAnL SAMS and AI are two different programs with two different program heads. I will call today and see what is going on.
@malfoy7 Commit and then rescind if you get into SAMS.
I just called yesterday and the lady said that they will be sending them out later in the week.
@ElfishPresely Yeah they have been saying that for the past month and a half or so
Does anyone know the statistics on people who attended SAMS getting into CMU?
@MyGPAIsAnL lol same im from RI
@csgirl119 cool what town
Also, I just called the office and received the same message that decisions for SAMS, a large portion of them, will be released by the end of this week. This may or may not be the final wave. Even then, there is a waitlist. You can call them after Friday after you want to know if you’re on the waitlist. I don’t know if rejection will be sent by the end of the week as well. The lady on the phone also said that they tried to get the decisions to be more rolling-based, but could not very well do so due to the large surplus of apps this year. It is quite likely that next year will have one or multiple set notification dates, like MITES/MOSTEC.
@bugaddict I don’t know exactly how many of us applied, but ~9 out of 117 of us were accepted to CMU this year.
@ak2018 any info on AI?
@malfoy7 A bird in hand is better than two birds in the bush.
