I got into MITES, so I gave up my spot at SAMS. Hopefully one of you guys gets off the waitlist. Good luck to all!
@1TimeHero I was also accepted to both SAMS and MOSTEC… really wish I got accepted to MITES so this would be an easier decision for me. But @ak2018 did you go to SAMS/do MOSTEC or both at different times?
So … if I didnt receive any email from CMU., I can assume I did not get accepted and did not get waitlisted?
I only did SAMS. A few people got into MOSTEC who also got into SAMS, but decided not to do MOSTEC because of the workload. They were right to do so as SAMS makes you crave fun because there is so much work involved. I did Econ over the summer online, but I kind of wish I didn’t because I was always in my dorm and not out having fun. I ultimately did finish my Econ work, but not without me almost failing both my physics and programming classes. To be very honest, I would NOT recommend doing both for any reason. Take my advice, from a second semester senior, doing all of these programs may result in burning out really early your senior year. There is a limit to what you should do. Lastly, there is no benefit to doing both. You actually have a better chance at getting into MIT through MITES than MOSTEC because you are on campus for much longer. OEP also states that an acceptance into either program does not mean an MIT acceptance next year. SAMS, if you decide to go, does offer about ~10 spots to those who did SAMS. I’ve heard it from an admissions counselor at CMU myself: “If you get selected for SAMS, we want you at CMU”. No matter what you decide, don’t do both as you could potentially ruin your chances at MIT and CMU if you don’t do well in both.
@cbamfta The above is to answer your question and to everyone else who had that same question.
@pandasnake123 An email is expected to be sent today and you may also call for a decision today as well.
@ak2018 Thanks
I have accepted my spot on MOSTEC, but I never received an email about apparently being Waitlisted at SAMS. I will keep my options open just for now, but I will NOT be doing both if I have the option.
What would you suggest I do?
Has anyone called the office and asked for AI results?
I’ve checked the directory and my email; I have nothing yet. Either I’ve been completely rejected or they need more time to send out decisions. I’m not calling because I just want them to do their thing (also cuz I’m scurred of the results).
@1TigerJ894 Honestly, I’d go with SAMS if you want an experience similar to what it’d be like for you to take an entire semester in college at CMU and potentially go to CMU in the fall of 2019, if you play your cards right.
TBH I’m more interested in MIT than CMU (because of financial aid reasons), but I’d also love the residential experience that I could get from SAMS. Again, idek if I’ll get off the waitlist for SAMS
@ak2018 what do you mean by “if you play your cards right you could enroll in the fall” have they ever recruited students from sams to enroll in the fall?
@1TigerJ894 Well if you ever need any help with deciding, if you get into SAMS, PM me.
@popaya Technically yes. As I said before, if you attend SAMS, one of the main outcomes that they hope is that you may consider enrolling at CMU. As I also stated, about 1/12th of last year’s SAMS kids have been accepted to CMU so far, including myself. What I’m saying is, SAMS is a unique opportunity that you can use to take advantage of to the fullest extent. I certainly took advantage of being able to talk with admissions officers about my application and stats and having them literally less than a tenth of a mile away from me as well as networking with certain professors. Because of SAMS, I have received four different summer internships offers from a couple different companies. Essentially, if you utilize SAMS 110% to help you out with future career plans, you’ll be well on your way.
Hey guys! Did you get the email saying that there’s a new deadline for people who have already applied??
@ElfishPresely what new deadline??

Greetings SAMS 2018 Applicants and Parents!
Although the SAMS 2018 application portal closed April 15th, 2018, we’re reaching out to notify all SAMS 2018 applicants that we have extended our deadline for those who have already submitted an application. Our reason behind this is to allow students who are missing materials (transcripts, letters of recommendation, etc) a chance to submit a completed application in its entirety. We understand there may have been many factors involved that could have prevented required materials from being sent to our team on time. With that being said, our new deadline for applicants to submit ALL required materials is April 25th, 2018. Incomplete applications will not be considered after April 25th, 2018.
