Carnegie Mellon Summer Academy for Math and Science (SAMS) and AP/EA 2018

lol yeah I realized that right before I read your comment. It was false alarm guys sorry. @peachActuary73

@anonymous522083 At this point. It seems that calling would be a better way to know for sure. I’d call 412-268-2082 tomorrow.

I called earlier today and they said they still couldn’t give me a decision for AI sigh

I got an email this morning saying that I was rejected.

Just got denied this morning.

I recently got another internship close to home that would let me publish research so I probably wouldn’t have gone anyway. In any case I would have liked to been accepted

congrats to everyone who got in!

@studylife00 @nontranslationalwog — was your first choice SAMS or AI? Has anyone been told
over the phone they were accepted but has not
received an email yet and doesn’t show up in the directory?

My first choice was SAMS. I didn’t apply to any other program.

I was hoping that I would get in, bc I only applied to three summer programs including this and already got waitlisted to the other one.

How do you tell if you’re waitlisted or rejected completely?

Did anyone get into AI?

@Bee0508 It’s pretty helpful, but I’d recommend getting a prep book as well.

@nontranslationalwog It’s great that you’re at least doing something this summer.

@studylife00 Try and figure out if you can find something local to do such as internships.

@Rawfish35 You should receive an email that tells you.

Did everyone who got a rejection email also get a separate email encouraging them to apply to one of the summer pre-college programs (which cost thousands of dollars)?

@ak2018 I was waitlisted for AP/EA! What do you think my chances are of getting off the waitlist?

Rejected from SAMS
4.13/4.5 GPA
990 PSAT score
Band, NHS, Student Council, Founded a Music Therapy Program, President of Global Council, Key Club
Low Income
African American (parents from Nigeria) sibling with autism

@ferncuad I do not know exactly. I believe getting off the waitlist for AP/EA is definitely likely as people usually prefer SAMS.

Also, for the 50 people currently on the SAMS waitlist. They fill spots based off of gender. If a boy declines their spot, that spot will go to a boy. I, however, do not know the order at which they select you off the waitlist. Last year, they selected 30 of the 50, so at this point, it’s a waiting game once again. I can say with pretty good faith that all spots for all programs should be fulled by mid-May. I have talked with the admissions counselors of SAMS and AP/EA and they have said that there is nothing you can send at this point to help you get off the waitlist. Congrats you guys!

that waitlist gender rule sounds dumb…

@ak2018 – do you have any idea how many people total are expected to attend SAMS and to the AI program? I was told that AI would be sending out emails by yesterday but still it does not seem anyone has received confirmation either way.

@ak2018

So I have a good chance of getting off the waitlist? Uggh, but I don’t wanna decline MOSTEC though. I need advice

Wait nvm, I just saw your comment to PM you

@plp000 It actually makes sense as the floors are not co-ed, so they need to have a nearly equal amount of male and female scholars to make sure every person gets a room. You guys all stay in one building anyway.

@silvercloud I only know no more than 120 scholars will be selected for SAMS.

Since I got rejected from SAMS, is there any other summer programs that I can still apply to, or is it too late? If I can, which ones are the best?

Stats:
GPA: 4.0 uw/4.4 w
Rank: #1
1450 SAT w/790 Math
Started a Beekeeping Club and an Entrepreneurship Club, Student Gov President, Mentoring, NHS, Part-time Starbucks Barista

Congrats to everyone that did get accepted; I wish I could be there with you guys this summer.
