Carnegie Mellon Summer Academy for Math and Science (SAMS) and AP/EA 2018

My psat was better than my friend who has taken 4 ap classes better grades and better psat he does not really have any accomplishments. Why did he get accepted and I didnt

@anonymous522083, I am not really sure who you were replying to, but in case it was me, here was my confirmation of recommendation. As a side note, it was in the Windows Vista notepad font. I dunno if they were going for retro style or if their automated email services need an update…

Dear Alevander:

We have successfully received your letter of recommendation from ************
to Carnegie Mellon Summer Programs.

Thank you,
Carnegie Mellon Summer Programs

@anonymous522083 Don’t worry I feel you man. I wrote a very passionate essay, my ACT was a 35, and my letter of rec was also very sincere. Don’t let this lessen the impact of your other achievements. And Intel sounds like a fantastic accomplishment and opportunity. Congratulate your friend and use this as fuel for later on down the road. P.S. Which program did you apply to?

Did you get rejected My gpa is an l? I applied to sams

@anonymous522083 please please please don’t take it out on your friend, whatever you do. The whole purpose of these programs is to bring others up, not to let those in high places climb higher. Also, it may not have been the reason for your rejection. When you apply to hyper competitive programs like this, acceptance is a crapshoot. The only time its not a crapshoot is when you have something the admin officers don’t like. At that point they just throw out your app and

@anonymous522083 Yeah I did. AI first, AP/EA second, Game academy third

I am just hella pissed because no offense but I am smarter and I really wanted to go

Now. my summer is going to be wasted because there is no other summer programs available since the deadlines have all passed. I am legit top2 in my rigorous school why haven’t I got accepted anywhere.

@anonymous522083 There’s plenty of other opportunities out there, you just need to reach out and find them. Also, I don’t know where you got the notion that you can objectively define yourself as smarter than someone on top of the fact that it makes you sound that much more obnoxious. Work hard and you’ll get where you want to be.

I did not mean to come across that way but I was just trying to get you guys to understand what I was going through
I have spent a lot of Time looking for programs trust me I have applied to like six different programs

How did you get the teacher to turn in the letter of rec. i turned in the one my teacher gave me through the portal because i never dot an email about where the teacher is supposed to submit it

same way

do any of you know of other summer programs which deadlines have not yet passed.

Maybe they thought my letter of rec was illegitimate. That sucks, I’m calling them tomorrow.

@anonymous522083 you seem like good material for r/iamverysmart

@anonymous522083 What are your stats?

I have taken 5 ap exams I am one of the top students gpa average grade of 98+
Science fair regional qualifier and category winner
I got grand champion this year and going to intel
psat 1280(kind a low but still better than my friends0
lots of volunteer hours
this year I am doing the ib program
I am in model un science bowl and uil academic competition

Has anyone been placed on waitlist? I got waitlisted at MITES, but got rejected from SAMS.

It could just be a matter of essay or what they felt you would get from the program. Nobody really knows how admissions offices base their decisions.

I’d have to agree with succeed. You have to remember that the people donating to fund your program are paying a crap ton of money. If they want people of the lowest income/ under-represented to become admitted, the admissions officers may have to abide, though you may be the super genius you are
