Case Western 2023 RD

Decision date?

@Mayukh3333 March 20th according to website

@COMom2boys

I actually had the chance to ask my daughter about the “what is distinctive?” question while she has been home this week. She said number one is how accepting and friendly everyone is. We live in a small town setting and as many small towns folks say hi in the neighborhood, etc. my daughter says CWRU has that strong sense of community , while being in the middle of a tremendous number of activities that are available in a large city and top tier university. She said CWRU has been great for her with the huge number of opportunities she has had. And she also said the faculty really care about the students- especially the undergraduates. She has friends at other schools where that is not the case. She said her classes have been challenging, but she loves them so much more that HS. She speaks very highly of the music programs and the CCEL service learning groups and the large number of special events and speakers that come to campus, as well as all the events at the nearby museums. She also said she is constantly discovering new interesting, artsy, and fun neighborhoods in Cleveland.

@Wizard2 – Thank you so much for taking the time to ask your daughter and to share her thoughts here. This is really helpful! Enjoy your time together this week.

Just got waitlisted by Northeastern but honestly I want to stay in town if the Browns are going to win the Superbowl while I’m at college. Does anyone know how much more selective Northeastern is than Case? I know its more selective but not sure just how much.

Also, if I am demonstrating a lot of need (fafsa EFC is $80), is there a solid chance that I get enough grant and merit aid to keep price per year below $15,000? Thanks

@d00td00t Yes, there is a solid chance you could get enough aid

Northwestern has a 9% acceptance rate, and Case has 35%.

And NortheEASTERN (which is where you were waitlisted, d00td00t) has a 27% acceptance rate ; )

@d00td00t TBH…Case Western is a much better school to me than Northeastern.

@putinator I feel the same way, although unfairly so since we didn’t take our son to visit Northeastern before they denied his RD application. I’d love to hear more details about how you would compare the two schools. My son is now certain no other schools will accept him since NU didn’t even waitlist him. I don’t want him to now think CWR is “less-than” since they accepted him and offered merit $$.

We only visited CWR after he was accepted and my husband and I were impressed with what WE saw. Our son was a little less enthused - his student host ditched him for most of his overnight visit and left him with a group of other hosts and their guests who he did not click with. I’m very surprised Northeastern rejected him - his schools Naviance shows students near his stats with acceptances, and only students with much lower stats with rejections.

@crknwk2000 oops i read the post too fast

Thanks for the answers, guys.

I absolutely love Northeastern, but mostly because of it being in Boston. The main difference between it and Case is that Northeastern puts an even heavier emphasis on co-ops and experiential learning, and is a bit larger student-wise.

Case gives you the options of Co-op, or Research, or Inventing, or None of the Above. Your choice.

Northeastern’s admit rate actually dropped to 19% last year. So comparing that to Case’s 35%, you still have a great shot (got both numbers from Naviance). Oddly enough my daughter got deferred EA from Case, but got accepted with great merit money and Honors program to Northeastern EA. I’m still not sure why she got deffered from Case, but while we’re waiting to hear from Case RD, she’s getting pretty well fixated on Northeastern.

@alliblues - my D applied RD to Case, however, has already been accepted into other universities. What I have seen is that with the waiting, and I hear the same form the parents of other applicants, the student starts to see him or herself attending one of the universities already accepted to and it is hard to deviate from that choice when other decisions are finally received.

My daughter waited until late April to make her decision. Do not get emotionally involved or fall in love with one particular school just because they admitted you early. Wait until all decisions come in and then make a decision based on major, location, cost, etc. My daughter finally chose Case over two top 20 schools.

Just got an email that decisions would be released sunday at 12:00 EST.

It’s prior to the original date.

I’m so excited (and nervous) to hear back!

Guys just.a few hours
