Off topic a bit.

When I start Firefox 3 in the morning and my various 10-15 tabs open up on the start page, the Cavalier Daily website is blocked. Google reported the site to StopBadware.org as being one that potentially distributes malware.

Not that there is anything at Cav to look at this time of year, but I’m wondering if anyone else gets this warning (maybe this is a new Firefox 3 feature).

I’ve never had a problem with the CavDaily site, but I’m on Firefox 2.0.0.14.

The site is run by the same company that runs many college newspaper sites (you’ll notice the same look and navigation on certain sites). So, if there’s a problem, it won’t just be with the CavDaily site.

I think it actually is Google Desktop flagging the site.

When I do a Google search in IE 7, I get a warning that the site can potentially damage my computer, so I sent an email to the CavDaily webmaster from a school computer.

Got the same message. I sent an IM to a friend in CavDaily, hopefully she knows an email without having to go on the site.

PS- hah watch the entire UVA server crash thanks to you going on that site
actually, if you were in Stacks, you’d crash the Stacks servers…but who cares, they crash on their own

My office’s computer security also detected a problem with the Daily Cavalier. They reported back that my computer was compromised, and our IT folks replaced the hard drive and were testing to see what files were affected. I asked what happened, and computer security reported back to the IT folks that it was harmed when I accessed the Daily Cavalier URL. Someone (Dean J maybe) should report this directly to the Daily Cavalier and their computer security personnel.

I talked to one of my friends who manages the CavDaily site, and he said the issue has been resolved. Also, they’re planning on upgrading the CMS software running the site during the summer :)
