"What 21 year old is ever going to be living in that exact same spot in his career 30 years from now? " - Career? To me the son sounds like there’s a possibility that he is a guy that might intend to just stay there, let his parents finance his housing.
Often I’m not a fan of paining wood surface, but in this case I think it looks great.
The thing that seems really cool about this project is that the owner seems to appreciate the talents and competence of @coralbrook. Hopefully the kitchen renovation will be a low stress, fun project.
Finally done! Well, almost… still have to find special lightbulbs for the living room chandelier, fix some drawers installed wrong in laundry room and install baseboard in laundry room.
I loaded some pictures.
The living room chandelier is very low but I think they are going to arrange some furniture around it as a seating area. But for now it looks like the son has added disco balls and disco lighting and is using the living room as a dance area for parties, not to mention there is a tent set up in the living room for some reason!!! Someone is definitely going to hit their head on that light

Total cost for laundry room and bathroom was $7,600 for tile work and installations, $2,000 for toilets, lighting, etc and about $3,500 for painting. There was a lot of paint work.
Next project on this house is a big budget kitchen, then all new flooring and then master bathroom. I cannot start the kitchen until about June because it is a big job. So right now we are working through cabinet design and I need to get the cabinets ordered by about April 20.
I think the new Mexican painted sinks are nicer than ones before also. And, there used to be cheap plasticky chrome/brass faucets and I think the black faucets are a nicer look
Yes, the countertop paint was a 3 step painting process. Step 1 was a primer, Step 2 was the color beads painted on with some thick goo (not thrown on like garage epoxy) but Step 2 made the counters really bumpy. So painters sanded down after Step 2. Then there was a thin urethane Step 3. All of the steps dried pretty fast between coats. Unfortunately the pictures showed kind of a nice blue and grey specks. After sanding they turned into black and brown specks!
The reason it’s not a clear shower door is because there was a brand new shower door on there and so we saved it. Clear shower door would make the teensy little room look bigger
