So I noted in the upper left hand corner of our not so “newly” designed CC board that I have freshly past the 500 mark in threads started. 500! I guess I have a good bit I want to talk about! (surely someone can beat 500 - whatcha got??)

It got me thinking what were/are some of my most memorable threads (to me) that I started. Threads that have hung on, threads that have been controversial, threads that took on a life of their own.

Threads I have often enjoyed the most are food threads. Seems we haven’t had so many of those lately. One I started helped me pull out many late decision meals - it was the “what’s for dinner at your house” thread.

Early on as an advocate for many colleges not well known being given some love, I started “Brag About Your Lesser Known School” thread. I loved that this gave people a chance to brag about their not so well known, but passionately loved school in the midst of big names that get thrown around CC alot.

A recent thread I started has carried on a life of it’s own. I bowed out long ago! I’ve been surprised that it hasn’t been closed down yet! It’s the “White Privilege” thread.

But I think the thread that I am most “proud” of and continue to love to read and see is the “Your Good Buy Of The Day” thread started in November 2008. Hope many have saved $$ on that thread! I know I have. Spent money too! Close to 6000 posts and over 450,000 views!

Share a memorable thread you started. Or maybe, wished you didn’t.

I am definitely most proud of “The Meta-Thread…” I think it’s my highest personal achievement. :D

I am also proud of “Dress People, MOB help?” as I think it became a great resource for all of us fashion-challenged posters. And actually also “Gak! I have to plan a wedding”. The wedding era was fun.

And I am very much looking forward to soon posting a final follow up on “Long Time Posters! Guess Whose Kid is going back to college!”

I’m more of a follower than leader of threads. You’ve mentioned many of my favorites. I also like some of the TV shows; it is fun to watch and read other people’s comments. I like the clothing threads a lot. I tend to be boring, haven’t worn a dress in years, but get inspired by suggestions. Wedding threads are a real hit. On the Parents Forum, I like when people ask about colleges that would meet their needs, and later, how to choose between acceptances. No matter the field or the school, so many posters have real knowledge.

Abasket, where is your beach? Ours look similar, but I put a book in mine.

Those sound interesting Hunt - must be on other pages than the cafe - which seems to be where I spend most of my time even though I have a current junior in high school!

garland’s Meta-Thread is an undoubted classic. The Bag-a-Week Club thread started by abasket has probably been the most helpful of all CC threads to me, although it has only the most tangential relation to college (as in, now that everyone is off to college, I can make some headway with the clutter in the house). I have also really enjoyed the discussions on the CC Book of the Month thread. Some of the heated threads have been helpful to me in clarifying my thoughts and drawing fine distinctions (appreciated by few, sadly). If CC had been as informative 8 or 9 years ago as it is now, that would have been really helpful to me, in advising QMP. I am glad that many forms of “the word” are out now.

I think I might have started a “Celebrating Our Common Humanity” thread. If I made it an entire thread, that is the thread that I am most proud of, even though it is admittedly a bit hokey. I started it in response to the numerous posts, mostly by high school students but a few by full-fledged adults saying that students with top stats who were rejected by top schools were “robotic” (while knowing nothing about the student other than those facts). The incidence of that kind of commentary really fell off this year, for which I am very grateful!

It was fun to look back over my list! Favorites:

'Dumbest Thing Your Smart Kid Has Done" - So many hilarious stories from fellow CCers.

“Lost It With My Dad Over HYPS” - Lots of support from the CC community through the saga of my parents’ certainty that I was shortchanging my kid in the college process. Update – my parents have ZERO recall of having pressured us in any way on college selection (insist that it NEVER HAPPENED), and think her college choice is perfect (even though they had never heard of it before we told them she was attending).

'Thong on the Kitchen Counter" - My favorite title.

The best thread I started was the Weight Loss for Dummies although I have been yo-yo gaining and losing since I started it. It does seem to have helped others to lose weight.
Some of my favorites to read:
The Say it Here thread
What book have you read thread
The movie thread
Any thread that is about a breach in etiquette or crazy relative stories. I guess they validate me. 8-|

In addition to the Bragging Thread (which always has such happy news), a long while ago, I started a thread about getting started with financial aid…or something like that. It is now a bit outdated, and also is buried in a stickie of financial aid resources. But I hope it was helpful…at the time.

Weight Loss for Dummies remade my life so once again thanks to EPTR! Luckily it keeps on going. None of the threads I’ve started have gone for very long. I didn’t start the Passover recipe thread but I do bump it every year!

What a timely thread! My favorite thread start that I had forgotten about and desperately need right now (yes, I fell off the wagon) is The Methadone Thread. I resolve to go there first if I feel compelled to post on that other one today
