The CDC is freaking out on this one:

Total ban on anything related to romaine lettuce. Of course, I just bought a bag of salad mix containing romaine lettuce!

Great to release this cheery bit of info just before the holiday weekend! Dang, that’s a pretty huge ban! I guess folks will either do without romaine lettuce or just eat only cooked veggies. It’s not the 1st time Romaine has been a problem. We will just stick with cooked veggies, as it’s VERY important to wash thoroughly enough in our state for other bad and dangerous other things as well, which I won’t go into but blah!
We ate some of the romaine we have last week and have been fine, but it’s not worth taking the chance.
It didn’t say only eat cooked veggies, did it? Just not romaine lettuce? So other kinds of lettuce would be fine, I assume.
Darn yesterday I just bought a bunch of prepackaged Chicken Caesar salads from Costco. I don’t really want to throw all that away! Boooooo…
This stinks. Glad I have arugula to serve with the planned TG meal…
Glad our greens come from our local CSA…including romaine!
Whoops bought a bunch for salad last night. Bummer back to the store for baby lettuce.
Well, there goes a nice head of romaine I bought yesterday. Thank you for posting this @droppedit. I was going to make a salad for dinner tonight!
This warning from the CDC is like nothing they’ve ever said before. All romaine, regardless of your state, regardless of the brand. Wowser.
Dang it. Our favorite lettuce.
I’m firing up my basement grow lights and growing my own baby lettuce. Sheesh.
Shoot. Just bought six heads. At least it’s not a turkey recall.
Check your mixed lettuce also. Turns out my spring mix had baby romaine so it had to be tossed.
DH had called in a takeout order for dinner that included a couple of Caesar salads while I was reading these reports. We called back to cancel the salads but they were already made.
When DH went to pick up he told them we didn’t want the salads and they reluctantly took them off the bill.
How do small restaurants etc get officially notified about things like this?
@VeryHappy should I be worried about the romaine I buy which is grown at my CSA?
I had a taco salad with romaine lettuce at a chain restaurant today an hour before this came out, ugh. I just called the restaurant as a courtesy and they said corporate had notified them immediately and they threw all of their romaine out and had to go to Stop n Shop to buy iceberg to make it through till next produce delivery. Now I can worry for the next 3-4 days and hope no symptoms show up.
I almost got a salad. Glad I got the burger!
Ugh. This problem just doesn’t get fixed. Our food system has major issues.
Good news: So many other kinds of lettuce other than Romaine.
For those throwing it away, why not take it back to the store for a refund?
I took mine back to Publix for a refund. Bought a head of lettuce … and a six pack of ShockTop
They knew about the recall yet their produce section still had a wall of Romaine lettuce variants, mixes, etc.
