@Nrdsb4 - Wow… how scary. I’ve driven that stretch of I-35 and the semis think they own the road. You guys just seem to keep getting pounded, one storm after another. Really, I wish there was a way to funnel some of it to California!
I’ve heard that some Texas towns, downstream from the Colorado River in Austin on the way to the Gulf of Mexico are calling for evacuations as the floodwaters near their areas.
Wow! I just looked at the weather radar for Texas, and it’s getting pounded again, from the Oklahoma down to the Texas hill country again.
Funny story… kind of - D texted me last night: I’m turning into you more and more every day. Tonight it was “pick up your stuff because the cleaning lady is coming tomorrow!” And I responded, “Hahaha; next you’ll start watching The Weather Channel all the time. It’s all downhill from there.” I do watch too much of the Weather Channel. Sometimes I think I missed my calling. But I was terrible at science!
Well, some areas of North Texas got 7 inches of rain last night as the storm system kind of hovered over us rather than continuing to move.
Lots of flooding, with more rain in the forecast tonight and through Saturday, with heavy rain predicted.
After that, we’ve got seven days of sun in the forecast, so if we can weather the next 2 days, recovery can begin.
We’ve been in severe drought for so long, it’s hard for my brain to process anything but joy when rain is in the forecast. Now everyone is looking at the forecast with dread. We personally have had no problems in my area of town. I guess we are on higher elevation. DH works the Byron Nelson Golf tournament every year through his charitable organization, and they have had to postpone the tourney this morning not because of immediate problems, but because some of the highways are closed down in various locations and people can’t get there.
We have every other Friday housecleaning services and they have canceled because some of the crews are unable to get into the city. I hope all of the ladies are okay and not personally affected.
I am not even joking … some of us here feel like we have PTSD. Personally, I have turned the weather alerts off on my phone. They are loud, scary and too-frequent at this point. Right now, it’s stopped and is sunny, but we know that means it will warm up and likely spark more storms. Waiting until Sunday, when we’ll get a reprieve.
Ha! I was just mentioning that to someone last night. It’s going to be miserable.
I will likely be in Texas twice this summer - one time in Corpus for a funeral (waiting for that call), and in July in Austin and Houston. I really, really thought twice about scheduling that second trip in July, but it’s been almost eleven years since I’ve been there in the summer, so I thought I could deal with it. I will not plan anything for outside!
teri, one of the good things about all this rain is that it has yet to hit 90 in Austin! Here we are at the end of the month, and it’s been super-pleasant temp-wise.
Well, if it stays that way, July will be almost tolerable!
I spoke to a friend from Houston today who has a house in Wimberley. The house is OK, but his backyard deck is gone. In light of everything else that happened in Wimberley, he didn’t seem too bothered.
In that photo, the Trinity river, which usually looks like a large creek, looks like the Mississippi!
It rained HARD in the very early hours of the morning here. Lots of rain in a short amount of time. Then later, heavy rain, but of much shorter duration.
I think we are done for the next several days at least!
Radars shows big storms over San Marcos and Wimberly at the moment and just starting to storm where I’m at in Austin for a fencing tournament. Wish we were done!
@3scoutsmom, oops, sorry! I was looking at radar, but it only goes to Waco or so. Just looked at radar of central Texas, and wow, you guys are getting it!
Austinite here. Local news just said 27 days of straight rain here. Definitely hit/miss although news reports make it sound more widespread. 4.8 inches southwest of San Marcos, 2 inches or so in SW Austin. It is definitely a problem in river and low lying areas.
Oh, and the snakes are showing up in our neighborhood.
Weatherman is saying good news, sun should come out and dry up next week. High pressure ridge showing up soon. No rain in forecast from Monday on!
