Nothing, as long as you state your assumptions, which you did.
Or we can employ Occamâs razor and using your words find the reason for the correlation to be the similarity of the schools.
Please move on from the probability of acceptances or take it to PM. Further posts will be deleted. Thanks for your understanding!
UNC OOS should be considered as if not more difficult as any T10. 40% OOS are UNC legacy and only 18% are OOS per state mandate. Your in the running but many students of same caliber are denied due to small numbers of OOS spots.GL
When considered overall, however, this site placed UNC as the 51st most selective school in the country among those it ranked:
you are a great great student! Duke is a very hard admit for ANYONE.
People may disagree but I wouldnât report your APs to the super selective schools going forward. I definitely wouldnât report the 3⊠Tippy top schools are a looking for almost all 5s from kids from your background⊠and evidence of a ratio of more non-5s to 5s isnât helpful IMO.
Depending on reputation of your school, cum laude is very impressive. W/O published ranking they wonât know if you are top 2% of 9% so donât worry about that so muchâŠ(some seemed worried about you being âonlyâ in top 10%)
Does your school have a good counselor? A lot of private schools have fantastic ones, I would ask them (if godo) about the APs tooâŠlocal context and history matter.
Good luck!
You wonât know why Duke. And it doesnât matter. UGA is a top school in the poli sci realm so you are already in a great spot.
That one said no doesnât mean another will.
Your ECs need to reflect you, not a major. The kid who plays football, is in band, walks dogs at an animal shelter - what does he do ? But yours do reflect your interest.
You got rejected by a school that rejects a high majority. You knew up front the odds were slim.
Love those who love you but worst case, UGA is a home run. Anything else is icing on the cake.
Back to chance me - SMU Iâm sure is an in but stronger than UGA in your interests - nope. Richmond - good chance. The rest are toss ups and you never know.
I would not be surprised if you got rejected from all your reach schools, but I would also not be surprised if you got into one, multiple, or all of them left. You have the best shot an unhooked applicant can have really, which is STILL around 5%!
Actually, that is not correct. That is for the Duke class of 21 who were high school 2017. For High School 2021 grads(Duke 2025), in other words ED December 2020, it was the most difficult year to date:
âDuke received 5,036 early decision applications â a 16 percent increase over last year and the most early decision applicants in the universityâs history. The 840 new students represent a 16.7 percent admit rate, compared to 20.7 percent last year and 18.2 percent in 2018, Guttentag saidâ
I remember it so well because my current senior at Duke was deferred ED then got in later in RD (and many other great places, but chose Duke).
OP there will be other options for you! Apply broadly and add some matches. Anecdotally the family connections of a current Duke Sibling tends to lead to a deferral more often than a rejection but as others have pointed out it was extremely competitive this year. None of us can tell for sure what might have led to the decision.
