OP.. Yes and No, It can make a difference and engineering is rank sensitive for the tippy top engineering schools. After that I would agree, probably less significant. My kid is at GT and has had fabulous internships and offers which had a lot to do with the GT networking at top companies where many GT grads have high positions. That being said, just because you are not accepted into a top engineering school/school does not mean that you will not have a wonderful and great career getting a degree from another school. It is important to not get fixated on the school name but more focused on what a particular school can provide academically and career wise for your particular major. At the end of the day, it will be the individual that will need to prove themselves with whatever job opportunity they get. Decide what you want to major in, then apply to those schools that place well in that major. Then all that will be left is to work hard and you will do fine wherever you go. Good luck!
Welcome to College Confidential, @asteroidtt!
In looking at the colleges you’re considering applying to, I’m having a hard time picturing what kind of college experience you want.
You have small to very large schools, some in college towns, others in major metros, some that are big into sports and others that are rarely associated with sports, some that have more of a preprofessional reputation and others that are known for the life of the mind, some that have virtually no campus and others that are considered quintessential college campuses, some that are tech-focused and others that offer an array of different fields of study. Some are in dry, sunny, and temperate climates while others are in cold areas that are overcast for much of the school year.
Although it is very possible to have different types of schools that are of interest, I find it difficult to think that all of these types of schools/experiences are equally attractive to you.
What kind of college experience are you hoping for?
