Hi ladies and gents!
I just want to see what my chances are for upenn, wustl, ucla, ucsd, cal Berkeley, uc Irvine, northeastern, Yale, Dartmouth, and BU
(I was deferred from Harvard early- just some extra information)
SAT: single sitting 2200 (1530 cr and math)
Superscore : 2310
Math 2: 770
Chem: 750
Bio m: 730
Gpa ( kinda weak) 4.15 w/ 3.71uw
no class rank for our school (top 9% state and elc according to uc calculations)
Awards: ap scholar with distinction, past commended, some robotics awards, some small school awards
11 APs taken out of 15 at school
Some extracurriculars -
Indian vocal music - perform every year in front of hundreds of people (learning for 10 years)
taekwondo: 3rd degree black belt- have taught hundreds of students taekwondo and am currently in instructor training
FRC- robotics- have connected to a thousand plus students teachIng the importance of STEM and have raised thousands of dollars for the club ( it’s. A great experience for those interested)
I have spent numerous hours there (36 hrs a week) and am electrical engineering lead (teach 10-14 students in my group)
Hospital internship: 150 hrs so far working with patients (humbling experience)
research internship- worked over the summer and continuing my work over breaks
Letters: really great letters from APEL and AP chemistry teachers
also, additional letters from research lab PI- former top college professor (has been really helpful) and close friend
Major: biology
income: working parent lost job
CA resident
ethnicity: Asian
Thank you!
Well, your GPA is very weak for schools at the level of Harvard. IIRC(might be wrong) the average incoming GPA at H is like 3.97 and a 3.7 isn’t even close, and although your awesome ECs might help make up for it, it is definitely the lacking part.
Overall,
UPenn: Reach
WUSTL: Reach
UCLA: Match/High Match
UCBerkeley: Low Reach/Reach
UCIrvine: Match
Northeastern: Match
Yale: Reach/High Reach
Dartmouth: Reach
Boston University: Match/High Match
I agree with @reddr0p except on BU and Northeastern. Northeastern is pushing scores lately (to the point where the average sat scores at NU are higher than BU and BC), so I’d put both at a match/high match.
I think you have a decent shot at getting merit aid from both/either.
Good luck! Try not to worry, and remember to stay classy
What is the order of the match system guys? I’m pretty new here. And yea… I’m pretty sure that gpa was a big portion for my deferral from Harvard early. I also have like slight legacy to WUSTL so I’m hoping that may help! Thanks for all the responses!
Thank you for the responses guys! Hopefully a reach means that I still have a chance- at this point I hope that they can see potential in me- just gotta keep up with my interests- also I hope they receive my mid year report- it bumped up my gpa by .05 for weighted and .05 for unweighted. Thanks once again guys and gals!
@ShowMeState700 I think you have met the minimum every student at that (top 20) level should meet, and have innovated in other areas. But it’s up to the colleges at that point, who gets in and who doesn’t. I think that any other day, you could have gotten into at least one of your early schools. Hopefully we both at least have a chance!
@reddr0p does the fact that WUSTL and ivies use superscores work in my favor for admission? Just curious about if they take great importance towards the standardized tests as well?
The superscore works in your favor of course. No matter what anyone ever tells you, ALL 8 Ivy League colleges are a REACH for anyone…never a match. Stanford is the same. I would put WASHU as a low reach. I would say the others are either matches or high matches. No safeties in that bunch though I can’t see why some of them would reject you.
I’m not familiar with some of the schools you listed but I can tell you now that you will get into Northeastern and BU for certain. Probably WUSTL, as well. I’d say Dartmouth is a reach as all Ivies are reaches for everyone, but you have a great chance. And that is also going for Yale and UPenn. Regardless, you are a strong applicant and you will end up at a great school. Good luck!
Given their low admit rates, Ivies are a reach for everyone including the student with 2400, 36, highest GPA, etc. Maybe not for winners of Intel and similar competitions but for everyone else.
Hey guys quick update- got into northeastern honors college with 22,000 dean’s scholarship and got additional letter for Harvard and some updates since deferral. Tnx for the support!
