Essays

Really proud of my essays. (9/10) In my common app essay I used black holes as an extended metaphor to show my personality and character. I very much enjoyed writing my Caltech essays and felt I was effectively able to show my passion for STEM.

Decisions (indicate ED/EA/REA/SCEA/RD)

Acceptances:

Purdue (EA)

UIUC (EA)

University of Arizona (Astronomy major with 19K scholarship)

UChicago (Deferred)

Rejections:

Cornell (ED) Caltech (RD)

Pending- NYU RD (I qualify for NYU Promise), Rice RD, Northwestern RD, WashU RD, University of Rochester (RD). Please chance me for these too.

You have three great acceptances. Congratulations!
Are any of them affordable?
(Being public universities, they won’t give you any financial aid)

As for the rest, you’ll know within the next 2 weeks so hang in there.

What are your post graduation plans?

I would be able to afford Purdue as its almost 10k cheaper than UIUC even though UIUC is a T10 in physics. As of now I am not too sure but am very curious about physics and astrophysics. Most likely I will go into grad school and then go into research, and I am keeping data science as an alternate option. I am sure being a physics grad from a top university would open up a lot of career options apart from academia.

That’s going to be a challenge as a foreign citizen because most industry jobs that involve physics/astrophysics are with government agencies or defense contractors.
You will likely need to return to your home country.

Great acceptances - especially Arizona for physics/astronomy.

You’ve got great choices and you said you can afford Purdue.

Best of luck. You’ll know soon enough on the others - but not sure I’d choose them over what you have…unless they “fit” you better (forget the overall ranking - you’ve got fantastic physics programs already).

I am not sure I want to purely go into astronomy at Arizona. Purdue is a better option as it has a better reputation and costs almost the same. Still, if I get into Rice or Northwestern with aid then nothing like it.
