Background:

International Male Senior

IBDP: 41/45 predicted grade (HL Math 7 and maximum rigor overall)

National School System GPA 83/100 (70+ Honor) (85+ High Honor)
Rank Isn’t Given

SAT:1430 (770M 660RW)

Intended Majors:

Computer Science-Electrical Computer Engineering

Extracurriculars:

Co-founder of a drone delivery startup that raised 32k$ (a huge amount for the country that I reside in. I had the chance to meet with the country channel leader of google and he became our mentor. Three notorious angel investors/entrepreneurs of our area are also our mentors. Wrote 2000+ cold e-mails)

President of School’s Programming and Robotics Club

Co-President of School’s Motorsports Club (Really think this is unimportant I didn’t even wanna write this)

Founder of my school districts podcast where we hosted ex-Nasa employees and Professors from different branches

Student Council for 3 years straight (Aiming for presidency this year)

Member of our school district’s stray dog initiative where we raise and do fundraisers

Head of school’s Community Service

Internship at a local mobile game studio for 3 months both in my sophomore year and my junior year’s summer

Piano and Guitar Player (Passed our ministry’s exam with high achievement, have the permit to open my own music school)

Varsity Tennis for 2 years

Need
I’ll be applying to external scholarships so there isn’t any a full fund thing for me. The schools that I apply to are all need aware except NYU. Some merit based scholarships would be nice though.

Awards:

Maths Silver Medal In A Random STEM Olympiad (no need to inflate it)

2x High Honors Student (National Scale and will most likely be again this year)

1x Honors Student (National Scale)

LORs:

Got it from my HL Physics and HL Maths Teachers. Both know me and my ambitions really well.

Additional Notes:

My grandfather passed and very shortly after that my grandmother got diagnosed with cancer. Right after that my aunt died of cancer. That’s why my national school system GPA fell and lost my High Honors to Honors but my IBs stood rock solid.

The 1430 on my SAT is really intimidating me I am gonna apply early to Rutgers, UMass and Stony Brook but now I am even contemplating whether I should go test optional since 1430 is too low for CS. I initially was gonna EA to Purdue as well but there is no way I’m doing so with a 1430. I wanna hear what you guys have in mind regarding this. Thanks in advance!

Full List of Schools:

ASU Barrett (Hopefully),NC State,NYU,GTech,Purdue(EA??),Rutgers(EA),Stony Brook(EA),UChicago,UMass Amherst(EA),

I’m only gonna hope for Honors on ASU tbh and don’t aim for honors for the rest. I’m also open to school recs that fit my profile.

What’s your budget? And will you be able to show that your family has the funds on hand in order to get a student visa???

Start there.

I edited it my bad. My family can show funds no worries.

So four years, plus travel costs at any of the schools you have listed?

Yeah pretty much. Wouldn’t say no to merit scholarships though.

Gatech is not happening.

Are you guaranteed to get any of these scholarships? Also be advised that many schools will reduce need based aid if you are eligible for it…if you receive outside scholarships.

I think ASU is realistic for admission. The rest are either reaches or targets…in my opinion.

But CS and computer engineering depend a lot more on math skills rather than language skills, and 770 is a very good math SAT score. I think that I would submit your SAT scores if it were me.

I am concerned that you might get some acceptances that are not affordable. I guess you just need to apply and see what happens. Do you have an affordable safety in your home country?

Did this change? My D just graduated nyu and they used to be need aware for internationals. Since they upped financial aid they have also dropped the number of admits to be able to fund them. Your SAT is also low for NYU - latest middle 50% published is 1470-1570. You may have a better chance if you apppy for CS within Tandon rather than within CAS, but overall I think you should regard it as a reach. If my understanding of ASU’s international admission requirements is correct thay should be a likely. (Only answering for colleges I’m familiar with or have researched in some way)

I believe this is accurate but it’s not from the NYU website…

NYU is unfortunately not a need-blind institution for all students. While NYU is need-blind for U.S. citizens and permanent residents, it’s need-aware for international students.Aug 27, 2024

For Arizona State University, do you meet the requirements listed at First-year admission requirements | Admission | ASU and https://degrees.apps.asu.edu/bachelors/major/ASU00/ESCSEBS/computer-science ? If so, then you should be admitted to the CS major.

The Barrett program there has admission based on some subjective factors, so it is harder to give a chance on: First-Year Student Admissions | Barrett, The Honors College | ASU
